November Club meeting
Can you believe that the year is nearly over??? We are having our final dive club meeting for 2009 on Friday 27th November starting at 7.30pm. Peter 'PT" Taylor from Southern Ocean Exploration will be our guest speaker. He is well known and respected for his research work and has written numerous books on shipwrecks. Diving since 1974 PT has worked on just about every major project run by Heritage Victoria in the past 20 years. Considered to be 'the' authority on Victorian shipwrecks PT will be speaking about the research and ground work that goes into the eventual discovery of a shipwreck. Following PT’s talk we will be having ‘Christmas ‘drinks (BYO). Come along to celebrate the year that’s been and the start of the summer diving season!

Summer Shore Diving
With summer just around the corner and the warm weather approaching no doubt we will all be out and about enjoying life. Imagine turning up to parties with the same stories as last year. Summer shore diving gives you new dive stories and adventures to tell at parties, BBQ’s and around the office coffee machine at work. This program is a great opportunity for divers who are a bit rusty, haven’t dived in a while, don’t have enough confidence or those who want to dive regularly with a group. This year we will be kicking off the program on the 21st November. Vikki will be running the program again for us this and we will be going through till the end of May. For those who haven’t been on this program before here is a brief outline of how it runs.
Meet at Shop at 8 - 8:30am to give us time to allocate required equipment Saturday morning, we have a flat rate of $60 for everything. If you have all your equipment then the program is free and you can meet at shop around 9am and car pool or meet at 10am at the site. Vikki will meet at the site at 10am then give a briefing, escort and assist those who wish to go with her. After the dive is done head off to a local pub or coffee shop for a bite or people can just head home if they wish. Equipment needs to be returned before 5pm on the Saturday when hired.
Cray Cup November 09
Each year at the opening of Crayfish season in November Dive Victoria hold the Cray cup. Aquability is looking for keen, Cray bashers, hunters & gatherers willing to take part in a day of diving for Crays on our back beaches and around Port Phillip Heads. This year’s cup will be held on Saturday 21/11/09 and spaces are limited. Boats will depart from Portsea and Queenscliff with a BBQ held during the day to keep the energy levels up. There will be prizes awarded on the day for the largest cray along with some booby prizes. You don’t have to be super qualified to do the dives, a lot of the crays are found in water between 5 and 15m depending on the dive sites. An advanced Open water rating though will give you more opportunity to reach better sites. We all have stories about the biggest cray or the one that got away. If you fancy yourself as a bit of a cray catcher (or want to learn) step up to the plate, here is your chance to show all how good you are and produce the big one on the day that counts.
We only have limited spots left on our cray cups dives. I am just waiting on prices and details for the BBQ’s that will be held on the day.
