The Weyenberg Library's Fine Arts Series is proud to present Fill'er Up, Wisconsin historians Jim Draeger and Mark Speltz's unique presentation on local history and culture, on Thursday, October 29 at 6:30 p.m. Step back to the day when a visit to the gas station meant service with a smile, a wash of the windshield, an...d the cheerful question, "Fill 'er up?" Since their unremarkable beginnings as cheap shacks and curbside pumps at the dawn of the automobile age, gas stations have taken many forms and worn many guises. This presentation tells the larger story of the gas station's place in automobile culture. Mequon's Towne Market Mobil, located on the corner of Mequon and Cedarburg Roads, is one of the featured stations mentioned in the book. Fill 'er Up provides a glimpse into the glory days of gas stations, when full service and free oil changes were the rule and the local station was a gathering place for neighbors, and envisions what place these historic structures can have in the 21st century.

The Fine Arts Series is made possible by a generous donation from the Weyenberg Public Library Foundation, Inc. Future events in the series include the return of the Milwaukee Ballet with their performance of Maria and the Magnificent Dancing Doll Shoppe on November 19.

This presentation is free and open to the public. For more information, please contact the Frank L. Weyenberg Library at 262-242-2593, or by email at community@flwlib.org. The Library is located at 11345 North Cedarburg Road, in Mequon.

The Weyenberg Library's Summer Reading Series presents Space Buddies as part of the Summer Movie Series. This free film will be shown in Hi-Definition in the Tolzman Community Room at 1:00 on Friday, July 10.

Space Buddies features five golden retriever puppies who have a knack for getting into mischief. When the kids ...take a field trip to see the launch of a real space shuttle, excitement runs high and Buddha quickly gets his brothers and sister together to sneak onto the school bus and join in the fun. The dogs get the adventure of a lifetime when they tour the shuttle at the wrong time and inadvertently get launched into space on a trip to the moon. All is not as it should be in mission control, and saboteur Mr. Finkle may just get the whole mission scrapped--Buddies and all. Mission control's Slats, remote pilot Astro, spaceship designer Pi, and his pet ferret Gravity try their best to save the shuttle and the Buddies, but the success of their mission hinges on help from crazy Russian cosmonaut Yuri and his cosmodog Spudnick. An adventure story with a nice message about family and teamwork, children will enjoy Space Buddies with its cute talking puppies and not-too-scary space travel.

The Weyenberg Library's Summer Reading Series presents Disney/Pixar's WALL-E as part of the Summer Movie Series. This free film will be shown in Hi-Definition in the Tolzman Community Room at 1:00 on Friday, June 26.

Pixar genius reigns in this funny romantic comedy, which stars a robot who says absolutely nothing for ...a full 25 minutes yet somehow completely transfixes and endears himself to the audience within the first few minutes of the film. As the last robot left on earth, Wall-E is one small robot--with a big, big heart--who holds the future of earth and mankind squarely in the palm of his metal hand. He's outlasted all the "Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class" robots that were assigned some 700 years ago to clean up the environmental mess that man made of earth while man vacationed aboard the luxury spaceship Axiom. Wall-E has dutifully gone about his job compacting trash, the extreme solitude broken only by his pet cockroach. When the Axiom sends its regularly scheduled robotic EVE probe to earth, Wall-E is instantly smitten and proceeds to try to impress EVE with his collection of human memorabilia. EVE's directive compels her to bring Wall-E's newly collected plant sprout to the captain of the Axiom and Wall-E follows in hot pursuit. Suddenly, the human world is turned upside down and the Captain joins forces with Wall-E and a cast of other misfit robots to lead the now lethargic people back home to earth. Wall-E is a great family film with the most impressive aspect being the depth of emotion conveyed by a simple robot--a machine typically considered devoid of emotion, but made so absolutely touching by the magic of Pixar animation.
