Debbie Hearn Joiner

Debbie Hearn Joiner I do hope you all will get Lyle Lovett and his big band to come next year. He is never a disappointment. He has a great rapor with his audience. He and the band are fun, smooth, entertaining, and awesome. Please, please, have them back, twice if you want.

Four-time Grammy winner Lyle Lovett is at his best when he’s on stage mixing Big Band styles with elements of jazz, folk and country. Taking an entirely different approach from his first appearance at the MSU Riley Center, he will be backed by his Large Band, which delivers horn-driven swin...g mixed with more traditional country folk songs.

Fun Facts:
Married to movie star Julia Roberts for a nanosecond in the ’90s, he also played small roles in Robert Altman films The Player, Short Cuts and Cookie’s Fortune and did songs for Mumford and Dr. T and the Women.”

MSU Riley Center for Education and Performing Arts Tom Sherwood, water percussionist performs with Meridian Symphony tonight. This is NOT your grandfather's symphony. More like experiential theater. Tom & 2 other percussionists play large clear tubs of water (2 are in the private boxes). There's also a “water phone,” a sphere of water with rods around the top that he p...lays with a bow. It produces a very eerier sound – appropriate for Halloween. Scroll down on attached link to hear interview with Tom Sherwood on GA Public Radio http://www.gpb.org/aso/interviews/2005

"Experiential theater" is a great way to describe last night's performance...during the water percussion segment, I was reminded of "Stomp" ... where the musicians make music with everything from newspaper to garbage cans to kitchen sinks. Not only was Tom's performance creative, it was visually entertaining as well.
