Merit School of Music is pleased to announce that it has received a service grant from the Taproot Foundation, the largest nonprofit consulting firm in the country. A team of Taproot volunteers will work with Merit to conduct market research in the first half of 2010. The estimated market value for this service is $70,000. Thank you, Taproot!

Merit School of Music congratulates cellist and Merit National Advisory Board Member Yo-Yo Ma on his new position as creative consultant to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Among the new initiatives Mr. Ma will implement is a children's concert series.

Merit School of Music and the Cervantes Orchestra of Chicago collaborated for a concert Nov. 20 in Anne & Howard Gottlieb Hall, part of the Latino Music Festival. The concert featured 17 Merit students playing side-by-side with the orchestra.

The event featured live performances by Merit students, dinner, dancing and a silent auction. All proceeds benefit Merit School of Music.

Merit School of Music voice and piano alumna Erica Watson debuts her new solo show Thursday (11/19) at the Chicago Center for Performing Arts, 777 N. Green St., combining cabaret and stand-up comedy. Ms. Watson has a role in the new film "Precious" and also has performed on the BET and Oxygen networks.
