Mexican gray wolves
The Mexican gray wolf, or "lobo", roamed throughout southeastern Arizona, southern New Mexico, and western Texas through the early 1900s, and south into northern Mexico until the 1980s. Today, around 50 wild wolves live in the wild.

Notable:
- Lone wolf F1028 and pup mp1186 of the Rim Pack were found dead this past month. Causes of mortality are under investigation. See tomorrow's post for more ...details on these wolves.
- AM990, though still referred to as Bacho Pack, is now considered a single wolf.
- Fox Mtn Pack, though implicated in a cattle death, were not issued a depredation incident by the Interagency Field Team

In Smith and Ferguson's 2005 book, Decade of the Wolf, they talk about this same concept. Here's an excerpt (pg. 126):
"But once all the aforementioned animals have had their turn…the invertebrates take over, especially beetles. And what the beetles don’t get leaches into the soil in the form of nutrients—so many nutrients, in fact, that a study on the Konza Prairie Reserve in Kansas found that carcasses contributed more nutrients to the soil than did either feces or urine."

Yes, these are the lobos from Wolf Haven Int'l. They were airlifted to Mexico in January and have awaiting release in a facility in Coahuila.
