Missouri Military Academy The Missouri Military Academy Colonels swept their
season series against Southern Boone County in the District 1, Class 4 soccer
finals on Thursday in Ashland.
The Colonels pulled away from a scoreless first half to
post a 2-1 win.
The teams seemed to be equally match in the first half,
with neither able to score and the... battle waged between the
boxes.
Senior midfielder Sung Chan (Daniel) Lee passed to
senior left forward Juan Pablo De Esesarte who headed the ball into the goal to
put the Colonels in the lead, 1-0, about 10 minutes into the second half. SoBoCo
tied the game, and it remained so until six minutes were left, when senior right
forward Eduardo Benites headed a ball coming from De Esesarte directly into the
goal for the decisive score. A last-second goal by De Esesarte was waived
off.
“I’m very proud of the effort and determination of our
players,” said Capt. Syed. “The whole team stayed aggressive and refused to give
in.”
The Colonels of head coach Capt. Ali Syed improved to
11-5-1 on the season and 6-1 against district opposition with their second 2-1
win of the season over top-seeded Southern Boone. It was the fourth district
title in the last five years for the defending
champs.
MMA faces Whitfield next Thursday in the state
quarterfinals at 5:30 p.m.at Troy Buchanan High School.

Missouri Military Academy Missouri Military Academy made it four soccer wins in a row with a 2-1 district victory over Southern Boone County on Monday afternoon at MMA.
Goal scorers for the Colonels were senior defender
Thomas Williams and senior left wing Sung Chan (Daniel) Lee.
Williams scored on a long, looping shot from outside the
box off a ...short pass from senior midfielder Gabriel Villasenor at 33:50 of the first half. Lee took a crossing pass from senior right forward Eduardo Benites and made it 2-0 with a shot into the corner of the net at the 23:40 mark, and the Colonels held that lead through
intermission.
“We did just enough in this game to secure a win. We had a lot of sick players, but the guys stepped up big-time and played relentlessly under tough conditions,” said MMA head coach Capt. Ali Syed.
“We scored two early goals in the first half, and that was enough for us to beat a very good Southern Boone team. Our team has been playing with a lot of confidence and we are undefeated so far this month.”
