URGENT REQUEST FOR HUMANITARIAN
ASSISTANCE TO THE CARIBBEAN AND TEXAS IN
THE AFTERMATH OF HURRICANES GUSTAV AND IKE
Our Hemisphere has faced 2 major hurricanes in a week’s time. People
from Haiti, Cuba, Turks and Caicos, and most recently Texas need your
support.
When Hurricane Gustav hit the island of Cuba on Aug...ust 31 as a category
4 storm, it was considered the worst storm to hit the island in 50
years. Just as recovery efforts for the first hurricane were underway,
Hurricane Ike hit eastern Cuba as a category 3 hurricane and slowly moved
west over two long days, affecting 100 percent of the island and
exacerbating the damage from Gustav.
If you recall, Hurricane Katrina was a devastating time for our
brothers and sisters in the Gulf Coast. The images we are seeing in the
devastated areas demand the same attention and our financial contributions.
I urge you to join me by supporting the efforts of several charitable
organizations that are currently working to deliver aid and assistance
to victims of these deadly storms.
We can help. We can make a difference. We can provide temporary
healing in the regions that are suffering and relying on our generosity and
values.

All Miami Beach Fire stations can be drop off points for food and clothing.
In lieu of online contributions, you are welcome to mail your check to
my office. I will personally deliver your checks to the heads of the
respective organizations of your choice.

I want to take this opportunity to sincerely thank you, from the bottom
of my heart, for your kindness and generosity. I will be traveling to
the Caribbean in the coming days and will report back with more
information regarding how your efforts are helping the victims of Gustav and
Ike.

of relief items such as baby supplies, first aid, powdered milk,
non-perishable food products, blue tarps and clothing. I will oversee the
pickup and delivery to the regions, and keep you informed as we work
with each area during these difficult times.
