The Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, in partnership with The PlayGround Theatre and VSA Arts of Florida, is seeking American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters and professional stage actors for its new “Shadow Interpreted Theatre Program for Children & Families.”
Shadow Theatre utilizes specially trained ...ASL interpreters who perform as “shadows” during a live stage production alongside voiced actors. The Shadow Actors are integrated into the performance by mirroring the voiced actor(s) on stage, while interpreting the character in American Sign Language. The Department of Cultural Affairs is seeking applications from sign language interpreters interested in becoming shadow interpreters (Shadow Actors and Shadow Directors). Selected Shadow Actors and Shadow Directors need not be professional actors or interpreters, but must be proficient in American Sign Language.
The Department also welcomes applications from theatre professionals who are interested in this program to observe the training workshops.
