June 2009 UpdateIt has been a whirlwind month of grace and battle. Truly it would have been impossible without the love and prayers of so many of our global family. For you I am truly grateful. Every day where we live seems to inch closer to precipices of hostility...

Do you know the feeling when heaven smiles and all is right, no matter how wrong things could go, it just doesn't even begin to touch the smile in your spirit? This week has held so many precious days like those...

This breaks God's heart... Please pray: this has to stop.USA Today-Child Witches Accused in CongoSee a beautifully done Dateline special on it HERE.

It has been an exciting season to finally submit the Converge International papers for incorporation and registration. Some of you have wondered what exactly Converge is... Well someone give us a drumroll please.....

I am very interested in this movement. I am part of an organization that just started a sponsorship program in the Congo, Goma and on the border towards Uganda and Rwanda. It is a bad situation there, and with God we can overcome this evil that is so strong in this area.

Maureen- I don't know- I'd like to think so! Ask them for it if it isn't...

Maureen at 9:22am June 25
Thanks Michele. I'll do that. Praying for you and Sudan. Actually during Worship at Church I did intercessory, and VICTORY declarations over Sudan and the Ministry. I find the times of Worship to be great opportunities for that.

Here is our latest video update, from the perspective of one of our most recent visitors... my mom. It was great to have her experience life Sudanese style with me. I am proud of her for sticking through it, as stretching as I know it was. Way to go mom!

Maureen at 4:28pm May 31
I loved watching and listening to your mom on the video! Also all the amazing thing God has been doing for you in Sudan.

So Papa told me He was putting me on stage this year and I would learn to paint. Hmmmm... I did not think He meant both at the same time though. I bought a bunch of artsuppliesin S Africa earlier this year but have not had the time to explore them. Sooooo heaven thought maybe they'd help me out...

Ok see the little gal to the right on this photo- her world was torn apart by LRA rebels less than 2 weeks ago. After the LRA killed this little one's mother in front of her, they beat her head with rocks. She came to live with us days after the attack...

,So our family has grown just a little bit and seems rapidly to be expanding to fill the new land. Here we are with some of the children in our school, teachers and a few local government leaders...

One of my favorite moments in today's festivities occurred when a guest in his speech sought interaction from the children and said- you all are orphans right...

I have been introduced to a worshipping travelers favorite invention next to ipods. Noise canceling headphones. Oh my goodness, turn a little switch and the noises around fade away and all you hear is the worship music...

From one of the meetings in the Brisbane area, OZ:After praying for a precious woman with two hearing aids:"...there definitely is a noticeable difference. When I arrived home at midnight I was so excited that I phoned my son, and I was able to talk to him with out my aids...

Thank you to Carl Butel of Deep Image Design who made this gorgeous graphic for me!I looked out from our table where we were enjoying "breakky" (aka breakfast) on the beach at Burleigh on Aussie's Gold Coast and about fell out of my seat. The beach looked familiar, very familiar and then it hit me...

I don't even know where to begin... except to say the last 2.5 weeks in Australia have been life changing. God branded OZ into my heart.I first want to thank my dear sister and friend Katherine Ruonala (right) of New Day Ministries for hosting me and making this time such a precious one for me...

Patrick and his son Zion: Christmas Day 2007The following is an excerpt of the remembrance that will be read at the Celebration Service for Patrick's life this week...

Isa 43:1-3 But now, this is what the LORD says — he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: "Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine...

It has been a blessed time in S Africa. I had the chance to minister at 2 different churches and God moved mightily each time. And I had a chance to spend time with dear friends whom I was staying with. YAY God for running water too!Things have been very difficult on the base in Sudan...

Today I has such a privilege. I got to take 13 of our children who placed in the top 10 students of their grade levels last term out for an all out party of soda and cake! And if you know me- you know I LOVE a good party! Here are our top students (save one who escaped the camera) from last term...

(Click on the image to see the full sized version)My journey in Africa began with a deeper asking of what love looked like. Not in words but in action. What does love look like to a recovering warzone? Surely not another institution...

The title is……Love Has a Face: Mascara, a Machete, and One Woman’s Miraculous Journey with Jesus in SudanIsn't that exciting? It matches the blog. I just might be developing a theme...

I had an encounter with my first short wave radio today. After trekking over mounds of rubbish, across a river and through several markets and villages we found the elusive device in a lean to on the side of a crumbling building that looked like it had tangoed with the war years and lost...

I know it is so confusing potentially in the world of rapid fire communication options to have TWO blogs to follow of mine... but one is for the poetry and ponderings from encounters in Papa's heart more than updates and random bits... one fuels the other...

Happy New Year 2009 to our Iris Sudan global family! We have exciting news! As many of you know, we have been watching God provide all year long for a matching grant of 200,000 USD to help us build on our new land...

Last night at about 10 pm excited voices could be heard echoing through the compound- jena suker, jena fi, jena fi wen (a baby? a baby is here- where?)...

This is one of my favorite passages of poetry.... Thank you Alfred Lloyd Tennyson. Ring in all that Jesus is and desires to be this year here in the middle of Sudan. It has special meaning this night as we welcome 2009. Much love to all of you from a building in the bush...

WHAT a Christmas it has been! It started on Christmas Eve with a great hair experiment ala the bush. I wound up with red hair and while not my intended color, it fits the season. At least it has flair...

Beloved it has been a year of incredible growth. In looking ahead to 09, it is often helpful to remember ALL that God has done. So this post is to brag on Papa God and His goodness. When we recover the eyes of a child, seeing the miraculous happen becomes normal...

I would love to invite all of my friends over for Christmas at our house... but I realize for most it is too far to come! So we thought we would bring a few glimpses of our house to yours! More musings on Christmas in these parts to come...

Truly He taught us to love one another,His law is love and His gospel is peace.Chains He shall break, for the slave is our brother. And in His name all oppression shall cease. The words have unique significance in a land in need of love, peace and an end to oppression...

I have been struck in the recent days about the cultural context of so many of our Christmas songs. I'm dreaming of a White Christmas and Silver Bells seem humorously out of place in a mud thatch metropolis teetering on the brink of war...

Love is stronger than hate. Recent carvings of the name Jesus take over our walls once only adorned by a left over spray of bullet holes. Our rented building has character... I'll give it that. Our children have left their mark because He has marked them as His own.Jesus is stronger than bullets...
