Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) MDCH recommends everyone with asthma who is 6 months - 64 years old get the 2009 H1N1 vaccine when it becomes available in your area. People with asthma are recommended to receive the H1N1 shot instead of the nasal spray to avoid exacerbating wheezing. An estimated 9.5% of Michigan residents have asthma. Of those, about 232,500 are children and 724,400 are adults.
