Mike Colclough has been a published writer, photographer, and weather forecaster since 1990. His photography evolved from lifelong fascinations with light and the outdoors, while tales of adventure, drama, and fantasy provided the spark for his writing.

While growing up near Boston, his influences were Ranger Rick Magazine, Reader's Digest, and National Geographic publications. Hurricane Gloria spurred his interest in weather when it hit New England in 1985.

As a teenager, Colclough practiced landscape photography using a 1975 Pentax K1000 that had no light meter. Until 2004, he shot exclusively with the meterless camera and published many images that remain among his best. His writing appeared in his town's newspaper as a weekly weather commentary from 1990 to 1997, and he often contributed to weather-related news stories.

At 21 Colclough moved to New Hampshire for college and mountain climbing, and his images became published for the first time in a local travel brochure. They have since appeared in numerous publications, web sites, and on national television.

While studying for his English-journalism degree at the University of New Hampshire, his coursework included the earth sciences which remain his favorite subjects.

Most of Colclough's images are nature, landscapes, and photojournalism while his writing is often feature, science, poetry, and meditations. In his work, Colclough continues to seek the real-life adventures and fantasy-like settings that captivated him as a child. (read less)
