VOLUNTEER TO WORK THE CO-OP BOOTH AT CENTER STREET DAZE
Center Street Daze is this Saturday, September 20, 2008
Please sign up for a shift to staff our table at the festival on Saturday.
There is a sign-up sheet at the co-op on the front counter. You may come in and sign-up in person, or you could even call and ask what shifts are available over the phone and ask the person on the phone to write in your name and phone number.
Each shift is about 2 hours.
The shifts range between 9 a.m. and 8:30 p.m.
The shifts entail set-up, clean-up, and selling of prepared food items, beverages, and other co-op merch. It is really easy and lots of fun, and we will even feed you!
Any time you can give is greatly appreciated and will add to your volunteer store discount hours.
Any questions? Contact George at 414-265-5822 or georges@riverwestcoop.org
Thank you!

Riverwest Co-Op Grocery & Cafe
(part 1 of three)
Greetings Jessica,
First off, let me apologize for the untimely response. Thank you for your feedback and your businesses. I'm sorry to hear your experience wasn't positive at the co-op. Please take this delayed apology as a sign that we're still discussing the issues your comments raised. While I appreciate some co-oper's leaping to our defense on a web page, I also want to assure you your feedback has rippled into our decision-making process. One real gem of being a small, neighborhood cooperative is that we get to know people. We pride ourselves on knowing members, neighbors, people's families and needs- while serving as a bit of a hub. I do take pride in this authentic, old-school customer service.

(continued, part 2)
I think you've exposed an underbelly of this level of comfort, it may come at the sacrifice of common courtesies. A dialouge about our values and procedures has been inspired by your feedback; I sincerely thank you.
It is my job, as volunteer coordinator, along with our collective management, to train the scores of folks working the counter throughout the week. As you noted, I'm afraid you may have visited us at a particularly difficult hour, on the heels of the 4th of July (I know I was up late with at least one of the cooks). That said, I take responsibility for the disregard you encountered. I've noticed us all- in the store and cafe- being more conscious of how we greet and show gratitude to the people walking through the door.

You rightly point out, this is fundamental to our service and success. It also heightens awareness of community, quality and safety. Again, this has prompted more conversation amongst our board, our management and our workers than is reflected in the facebook commentary thus far. I hope you and your boyfriend do give us another chance next time you're visiting Milwaukee. If you're willing, please reply (to gibsonc@riverwestcoop.org) and I'd be happy to arrange to buy your meals. If we can earn that, I look forward to future feedback.
In Gratitude,
Gibson Caldwell

Operation of the co-op and its many facets takes a lot of work and dedication that is not always visible.
We are looking for service minded folks that want to get involved with their community, serve the greater good for our people and our world, and have some goodness to add to your resume at the same time.
The Riverwest Co-Op Board of Directors is currently short one person. Our monthly board meetings are held the third Wednesday of each month at 7 pm. Meetings are open and we would love interested people to participate. You are more than welcome.
Just start by coming to meetings and showing your interest. Besides filling the current opening, we are looking to groom some energetic people for further board slots opening in the near future.
It feels good to be part of the co-op family, and it is fun.
Our volunteers, workers, and volunteer board members are very important people.
Always feel free to contact any of our board members or one of our managers with any questions
