Bachman's Floral, Gift & Garden This is not the time of year to prune anything that blooms early in the season (magnolias, lilacs, azaleas, rhododendrons, etc...). Pruning now will reduce or eliminate their flowers. Evergreens shouldn't be pruned now either. As for cutting back perennials, if the plant turns to mush after a killing frost, cut it back. If a plant simply dries and stays standing, leave it alone.

Bachman's Floral, Gift & Garden Our design room had their famous pumpkin carving contest today. One of our designers actually put a chocolate fountain inside a carved pumpkin (mmm)! We also saw pumpkin spiders (mini pumpkins connected together with legs), a pumpkin pig and a glowing peace pumpkin with fresh flowers. It's a fun day here at Bachman's.

Bachman's Floral, Gift & Garden Halloween novelties are now 50% off while supplies last! Excludes Department 56 Villages and accessories.

Bachman's Floral, Gift & Garden Now is the time to… - Add a new bird feeder and heated birdbath for our feathered friends. - Remove garden chemicals from your unheated garage so they do not freeze. - Apply deer and rabbit repellent to plants that are often nibbled on over the winter. - Continue cutting the grass as long as the grass is growing. Mow to 2-2 ½ “. - There is still time to tuck in a few tulip bulbs.

Did you know that spruce tops are a regenerative crop that can be harvested again and again? Replace those tired frost-killed annuals from planters with fresh cut spruce tops this week. Before placing spruce tops in soil, give them a fresh cut (just like you would a Christmas tree) and push them 4-5 inches deep into so...il. Then water soil thoroughly and keep moist until ground freezes. Decorate with pumpkin tree stems, bittersweet, ornamental kale, curly willow and rose hips. Dogwood twigs or stems with interesting seedpods make nice accents too, and can last into winter.Read More
