ACTION ALERT: Hennepin County is planning on terminating their funding contract with SVC effective December 31st. This represents a loss of $45,000 for the agency for 2010. The message we want to send to the Commissioners is that we provide a vital service that includes prevention, intervention, 24- hour crisis line,... 24-hour emergency room advocacy and crisis support, and systems change. SVC is the only rape crisis center in Minneapolis that provides emergency room advocacy and support from a trained sexual assault advocate. SVC services support the county’s goals of improving public safety and public health. If you are a resident of the county you have an expectation that these types of services would be available to you and other Hennepin County residents. Or if you would like to testify (each person is given 3 minutes) in favor of restoring that funding, please call 612-348-4019 to speak with the Board’s Clerk. You will most likely get voicemail but if you leave a message you should still be able to get on the roster to testify and they will call you back to tell you which day you are testifying. You can also set up a face-to-face individual meeting with your county commissioner to discuss this issue.
