Amazon.com: Nowhere Feels Like Home: (A Misfit McCabe Novel) (Volume 2) (9780984238316): L K Gardner-Griffie: Books

Misfit McCabe Sarah came in and brought me a biscuit, even though Uncle Charley told her I missed out on supper, because she knew I was hungry. I couldn't take it because I deliberately got myself in trouble. It didn't feel right. That biscuit sure did smell good. My stomach growled really loud when I handed it back to Sarah.

Misfit McCabe Timmy and I were inseperable and somehow were always in trouble together. The town biddies thought Timmy was a bad influence on me. Just because his dad had a drinking problem. If anything, I was a bad influence on him. He tried to keep me out of trouble while I jumped in with both feet.

Misfit McCabe As I sat in my room, still ticked off because Uncle Charley blamed Daddy for my lack of manners, I started to think about home. I missed my best friend, Timmy. What was I going to do without him?

I've been interviewed for a blog - how cool is that. Check it out.

This blog chronicles my journey to and through publication. It's certain that I will make grand mistakes and hit major road blocks and pitfalls, but I'm hopeful and fervently optimistic that I will ultimately succeed. ...

Misfit McCabe Mark gave a hoot of laughter and called me a hellcat as I stomped from the room. How embarrassing. I did lose my temper and Uncle Charley sent me to my room because I wouldn't apologize.

Misfit McCabe How dare he? Uncle Charley said he was surprised my Daddy didn't teach me better manners. I was flamin' mad. Daddy taught me. I CHOSE not to follow what I had been taught. Why blame Daddy for something I did? It wasn't fair.

Misfit McCabe When Uncle Charley corrected me for trying to eat before grace, I felt guilty. It was ridiculous because I did it on purpose to irritate him. Instead of reveling in my success I turned beet red and mumbled an apology. Then Uncle Charley crossed the line.

Misfit McCabe If Uncle Charley were anything like Daddy, I knew he'd FLIP OUT if I started eating before we blessed the meal. I started putting food on my plate as soon as everyone was seated. I thought Uncle Charley was gonna choke.

Misfit McCabe As soon as Uncle Charley walked in, I asked him when I could pack up to leave. I told him Daddy would be calling any day to have me come back home. I spoke with a lot more confidence than I felt. Daddy NEVER changed his mind. Especially on something this big. I just wanted to get under Uncle Charley's skin so he'd get ...tired of me being there and send me back home. I didn't care how I got there. I wanted to go home.

Misfit McCabe I tried to help get supper on the table, but made a hash of the salad. Then I nearly broke the stoneware putting it on the table. I guess I was a little nervous about meeting Uncle Charley for the first time.

Misfit McCabe After putting my pitiful pile of things away, I joined Sarah in the kitchen. The smells from the cooking food awoke the beast formerly known as my stomach and I realized I hadn't eaten in over a day. The last food I'd had was lunch yesterday.
