Mississippi Outdoors We want to hear about your hunts this weekend. How did you do?

Mississippi Outdoors We just uploaded a new photo album about a special boy, Nick. Nick was a participant with the Catch-A-Dream Foundation. Ricky Flynt, MDWFP Alligator Program Coordinator, went with Nick on his first hunt. Check out Nick's story and photos below! Good job Nick!

Mississippi Outdoors
Just want to take a moment to share about an experience that I was privileged to be a part of this week.
I am a Supporting Partner for Catch-A-Dream Foundation ( http://catchadream.org/ ). I met a young man from Terry, MS about 3 weeks ago at the Childrens Hospital in Jackson, MS. His name is Nick and he is 11 years ...old. He was diagnosed with a terminal cancer in late February of this year. I won’t go into any specifics, except that it is a very rapid and aggressive cancer in the throat region of his body. He has undergone numerous procedures and treatments and is very, very, sick. Less than 5% of the patients with this disease survive.
I found out during our visit that Nick wanted to be able to go deer hunting this year, because he had never killed a deer, nor had he ever seen a deer while hunting. He has only been on a few trips to hunt in his lifetime. So, long story – short, I called the directors for CAD and they began the process to put together a dream hunting adventure for Nick. In less than 48 hours after receiving the application from his father a plan was put together. It took several weeks for Nick to regain his strength suitable enough to satisfy the Doctors to approve his dream wish. Nick also was accepted by the National Wild Turkey Federation’s Wheelin’ Sportsman Hunt for the weekend of November 7th, but was too ill to participate.
Nick was granted Catch-A-Dream hunting adventure at the property of Billy and Molly Van Devender, which is called Woodburn and located in Claiborne County, Mississippi. Nick’s father, step-mother, 13 yo brother, and 9 yo sister were also invited for the 3 day adventure.
Numerous people, too many to list, came together as a team to give Nick and his family the opportunity to escape from the aweful effects of this disease. Nick hunted for 2.5 days. He went to the waterfall at the creek to collect rocks. He walked the woods trails to hunt for turkey feathers, fed the horses, went fishing, rode in the truck and the golfcart. All are activities that seem so simple, yet very special to Nick.
Nick never complained.
Please pray for Nick and his family as they continue to struggle through this battle. The disease offers very little hope for tomorrow, but the Father offers a promise of an eternity where sickness and pain does not exist. Thanks to Catch-A-Dream, this promise was explained and presented to Nick in Isaiah 40:31.
Oddly, everyone involved was there to bless Nick with the dream of his life, yet Nick blessed each of us with his courage, strength, and character.
Here are a few pictures I took to document his dream adventure come true.
