The Samanas
"My name is Patrick Shannon Whelan & I was born in the West Riding of Yorkshire. A couple of years ago (at the Queen's request I ought bequeath) I moved to London in a big white van. Rowlerpig came too & helped with the lifting, the smoking, the changing of cassette tapes & the perusing of lasses. Twas durin...g one particularly engaging perusal that we crashed into a lamp post near Camden tube. Welcome to London - that'll be £600, a police caution & a bollocking off yer Dad...
The Samanas is my new band, assembled from the Hard Graft stable, & we'll have an LP out early next year. It'll be called "Waxing Gibbous, Waning Crescent" & upon release it'll probably cause Neptune to go "Pssshhht!!! Fuck me!!!" & promptly fall out of orbit."

Worth it if only to see the Samanas - who are very good.

Mohanski - Hotdog Chihuahua - Reviewer Kwok W Wan The sun radiates from this album and generates warmth from a place far from Mohanski's London origins. The weather is not British, but it shines a light on the sporadic graffiti, empty beet bottles and gret tower blocks of urban living...

It opens with "Airwolf" (a song about as unlike it's title as it's possible to be), starting laid-back with plaintive under-pinning of harmonica then evolving into a shuffle beat with a slightly more insistent bass line before it slips away...

Mohanski/Hotdog Chihuahua Listening to the surf harmonies and lo-fi funk of their debut album, you'd never guess Mohanski were based near Murder Mile in Hackney...

Chillin' with Mohanski I really know next to nothing about Mohanski. Let me sum it up: Fact 1 = I do know they're from England. Fact 2 = They're re-releasing their oddly titled debut album Hotdog Chihuahua on April 29th...

Ah the wonderfully small but well formed Ugly Nephew imprint has recently been peppering our in tray with some delightfully cute releases from the likes of the hotly tipped Southern Tenant Folk Union, the Zetland Players and the Sliding Rule which for those previously unaware is the extra curricula...

Mohanski Yeah sorry about that. I set up one - it dissapeared. So i set this one up and it appeared again. Now i can't get rid of it.
