Summer Space's aim is to create a car-free haven for outdoor relaxation. During the program – on September 13th, 20th, and 27th – two blocks of Montague Street, between Clinton and Hicks, will become pedestrian plazas, with outdoor seating, expanded cafés, and great activities that celebrate Montague Street’s local merchants and the Brooklyn Heights’ community. Each Sunday, lounge seating will be provided by Design Within Reach, and the Montague Street BID will provide café tables and chairs.

The BID's Halloween celebrations included a sidewalk demonstration by renowned pumpkin carver Hugh McMahon.

Brooklyn Heights resident McMahon – who's appeared on such programs as The Today Show, Good Morning America, The Late Show with David Letterman, and Late Night with Conan O'Brian – demonstrated his carving skill...s for Montague Street shoppers and residents. In addition to spooky Halloween creations, he displayed his remarkable pumpkin portraits of (then) Senators Barack Obama and John McCain.

McMahon's carved pumpkins were raffled off to Montague Street businesses. Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, State Senator Daniel Squadron, and Montague Street BID President Timothy King presided over the festivities.
