Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary The MBNMS Lost Fishing Gear mission, which began Oct. 18, is using a sanctuary-owned remotely operated vehicle to locate and retrieve stray gear. Based aboard the F/V Donna Kathleen, the operation has so far successfully retrieved 2-3 large nets with connected lines that together measure over 100ft, a 20ft gill net fra...gment and a crab trap at Portuguese Ledge State Marine Conservation Area.

Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary Join us for a free community event on Thursday, October 22nd at 6pm at the Steinbeck Forum in Monterey for the premier of a film documentary entitled "Legendary Fishermen - The Sea of Joe from Sicily to Alaska." Enzo Incontro, the film director and MPA manager for Plemmirio in Sicily, follows the story of one of the ...Sicilian fishermen who became legendary after traveling for 40 day trips in small sailboats to the coast of Alaska for salmon fishing. Joe Bonanno settled in Monterey with his family and has spent time between Sicily, Monterey and Alaska over the past 40 years. Following the film will be a light reception.
