Fred Grayand Thomas Reed are elected to the state House of Representatives to become the first black Alabama legislators since Reconstruction. Both men won seats from the 31st House District, composed of Macon, Bullock, and Barbour counties.

Alabama Department of Archives and History During Monday's meeting, Friends board members got a sneak peek at some of the Archives' most recent acquistions, including John Coffee's 1818 map of Florence, Ala; the flag of the CSS Tuscaloosa, and a massive collection of civil rights movement photographs taken by Jim Peppler for the Southern Courier newspaper.
