Moon Society Bangalore: Water on the moon could be just the proverbial "tip of the iceberg" that India's very own Chandrayaan-1 has discovered.
New data from NASA's MINI-SAR will be announced within a month or two.

It could well be a large meteor or small asteroid that impacted the area, atleast this way a "planned" impact can monitor the violatiles and gas phases. The data will be awesome!!!

No, we are not going to polute what ever water there is. The craft is small and was designed to make a big "splash "but not polute. Any contamination will be minimal, at least, according to the design The gas/water droplet cloud created by the impact will be very useful

Thanks, Peter. I asked for details when we ran that design on the Ad Astra cover, but never got them. Still have questions which I will ask Mankins, et al.

There are no obvious radiators in the art I've seen. Logically, they belong "behind" the solar panels and at right angles like on the ISS since you want to keep them in shadow--but does that implies a fluid (ammonia?) system to collect the heat? Also not obvious how the mirrors track the sun and the transmitter holds alignment--no propulsion system or flywheels or joints (like the ISS SARG) evident in the design.

I understand this is only a model, but I need detail for my article. ... Read More

We have come a long way from the little model I used at Rice back in 1978! (But we ran a little train which is way cooler than lighting a bulb!)

For technical details try Mankins. Yes, there should be radiators, somewhere, e.g. behind the reflectors. The four struts to the phased array probably need to carry freon tubing. What power was the transmitter you used at Rice? Any docs still available? For licensing simplicity we limit to 1 Watt; FCC licensing can be more complicated at higher powers (even for experimental license).
