Wish I could attend tonight. Love the KFAC - enjoyed many trips down from Cincinnati while writing my Masters Thesis on Contemporary Folk Art: The KY Carvers. Met Minnie and Garland (and made one trip to their Day in the Country), Jim and Tim Lewis, and many others at the Sorgum Festival and the Center. A wonderful place to find visual stimulation and make everyone smile!

My wife and I saw the exhibit yesterday and absolutely loved the collection that the Kentucky Folk Art Center put together of Lavon's works. He's truly gifted and has a unique perspective.

I loved this exhibit and was delighted to walk into Tilden Hogge Elementary's library and see one of these works of art! I am so ecstatic to share my love of art with the students that I tutor there!

Kentucky Folk Art Center LaVon Van Williams has breathed vital, new life into an important African-American wood carving tradition that has its origins in the Gullah and Geechie cultures of coastal South Carolina. Williams' work is dynamic and full of movement. At once intimate and explosive, his sculpture reflects a contemporary perspetive ...on the African-American experience unlike the work of many other living artists.
