Motherland Today terms like sub-Saharan Africa dominate history books and discussions on Africa. But this term is not an African construction but yet another European linguistic tool to divide and conquer. It doesnt exists politically (African Union), ethnically (Tuareg), economically (COMESA), linguistically (Afro-Asiatic), religiously (Islam), historically or physically (Sudan and Mali).

oh, this is Nosa writing, by the way...I'm left wondering if there will be further evolution of our nomenclature since the term African is in some ways problematic...from Negro, to Black, to African?...what next?...

even more importantly is to think about whether most Black African people have caught up to the 'African' identity they have been ... Read Morethrust into?...the truth of the matter is that most of us still retain a worldview that is specific to our own smaller ethnic group...do most Black peoples in Africa really perceive themselves as the 'African' the rest of the world perceives them to be or do they rather see themselves primarily as Asante, Yoruba, Zulu, Xhosa?...hmmmm

Hi Nosa, I have 2 reply 2 your last comment Most Africans see themselves as Africans on the continent despite being Zulu, Hausa etc. But the "black identity" is far less acceptable. In SA yes, but in Ethiopia, Mali, Sudan, Somalia, Chad, Northen Nigeria people dont use it, they say we are African because we are from Africa. Anytime we claim something that causes us to unify you bet others will need to corrupt these terms.

The following speech was delivered by former Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney last week in Libya. As our issue deadline approaches, McKinney is now in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for an international conference on the criminalization of war and warfare, an affair certain to pass unnoticed by our corporate media. But then, our bipartisan elite and our ... Read Moremilitary establishment, the largest and most expensive in the world, is permanent war with a large fraction of humanity. In her tireless work to promote justice and peace over injustice and warfare, it is increasingly clear that McKinney is a more accurate representative of African America than our current president can claim to be.

At the close of Apartheid, a deal was brokered between the White elite and the Africans who were to inherit positions of power. Mass engineered rhetoric was used to lullaby the people into an ideology of a rainbow nation where reconciliation without justice had virtue. The general politics focuses on reassuring the be...neficiaries and perpetrators of racism that they have nothing to worry about, all is forgiven.

the reason it didn't happen was b/c the terms of "surrender" of the apartheid government included that they would be allow to retain all the profits of apartheid without any prosecution. as a matter fact it's very white domain and slowly african will never have to remember what happenend during apartheid era... which is a shame. those who did wrong should be taken accountable before the jury, they still think they made on the truth and reconcilliation act after Mandela was reliesed. Alot of damage was done but no one is the to heal those... The govement is also not interested anymore , guess they all are nterested in the current issues...

Motherland for far too long, a majority of Africans have been indifferent to misrepresentations about who they are. They have remained 'objects' of the ill-informed caricatures of a once glorious heritage disfigured by colonial and post-colonial predators. -- Chido Nwangwu
