Dear Mrs-O.org readers, 2009 has been a magical year. We watched the Os enter the White House, and have been merrily following the first lady's style ever since. Along the way, this blog even became a book...

Several of you have commented on a New York Times article by Cathy Horyn, "Wrapped in Their Identities," published December 24, 2009. I've not featured it until now, but it's been on my mind...

re: palin, you can put lipstick on a pig.... it's still a pig.
re: the article, I had to read it first and make an informed comment..............
Wow, sounds like Ms. Horyn has green eyed, opinionated issues. Let's go back to before the campaign trail. Mrs. O is a 1985 Princeton graduate, she met her husband while WORKING for the law firm Sidley... See More & Austin. She was perfectly capable of designer garb before the white house, she also shopped at the Gap.
Mrs. O's style has been consistent from the campaign trail straight to the white house. She dresses like a woman who is happy with herself. This article is common fodder to stir up topics of discussion.
The article clearly states Ms. Horyn personally pefers Palins style. She is entitled to her opinion. But why tear someone else down because you don't like her clothing choice, turning you into a catty and jealous person. At least that's how it sounded to me. She should be grateful. With this economy as she states at the beginning...... without First Lady, Michelle Obama..... she wouldn't have anything to write about!

It is characteristic Horyn acid, but inexplicably jumbled, as Mrs. T. pointed out. At one point she caveats the invocation of Palin dressing like everywoman with: "Obviously this is not a discussion about Ms. Palin... See More’s political views or intellectual gifts, so stay out of my fashion story" "And it’s the way a lot women would like to dress..." From that one could presume that Palin is manufactured, that there is not a single thread of originality in the way in which she upholsters herself. But then Horyn goes on to juxtapose the fashion industry's hopes of salvation in Mrs. O, with her not being partial to one designer, only to chide her for being a fashion "maven" and "insider." One would think that a fashion critic would be less appreciative of women who are afraid of "looking prissy" rather than the fashion forward women who ostensibly keep her employed.

Mrs. O Check out the gorgeous new crystal and bow necklace from J.Crew + Fenton / Fallon - just like the necklace Mrs. O wore on the cover of Glamour!

bit.ly
When the first lady appeared on the December cover of Glamour magazine, wearing a red Jason Wu dress and a statement necklace adorned with jewels and bows, we were all intrigued by the same question: who made that gorgeous necklace? The answer proved to be designer Dana Lorenz for her line Fenton. ....
