Fear of Feminist Nuns | by Fredrika Thelandersson

It turns out Sister Maureen Fiedler was right in her article "Bad Habits?", which appears in the latest issue of Ms., now on newsstands. She presumed that recent investigations of U.S. nuns by the Vatican are fueled by attempts to root out feminist beliefs.

In an intervi...ew on Vatican radio November 4, Vatican official and head
of the investigations, Cardinal Franc Rodé, bluntly admitted that a
“certain feminist spirit” is one of the reasons behind the
investigations of U.S. nuns. Read more...http://sn.im/tdyx1

Battleground Nebraska | by Wendy Norris

Shortly
after pioneering Kansas abortion provider Dr. George Tiller was
murdered on May 31 and his Wichita clinic subsequently closed, other
abortion physicians bravely stepped into the breach. Among the most public was Nebraska-based Dr. LeRoy
... Carhart, who for 11 years had traveled to Wichita monthly to perform late abortions at
Tiller’s clinic. Carhart quickly announced he would continue Tiller’s work either at his
Nebraska clinic in Bellevue or in Kansas. Read more...http://sn.im/tbg1r

I'm amazed and grateful in so many ways for people like Dr. Tiller and Dr. Carhart, who risk their lives in such a heated battlefield to help women. I not only trust women...I can say, I trust both of these male doctors.

Next time a man punches someone in a sporting event I want it on the front pages across world! And title 9...what a joke still! Girls sports are still under funded! Look out world women are now playing sports!

No Dignity For NBC by Michele Kort, Ms. magazine Senior

Anyone who’s watched the long-running NBC series Law and Order—the
original, not the spinoffs—knows that its stories are often “ripped
from the headlines.” So it wasn’t all that surprising that the October
23 episode, entitled “Dignity,” was obviously inspired by th...e murder
this past spring of Kansas abortion provider Dr. George Tiller in his
church. Read more...http://sn.im/svf37

I have been a L&O fan forever and was really upset by this episode for exactly what you say in the article. Especially that the female 'underling' ADA is the one at the end who thinks Roe needs looking at again! WTF?

WTF is right! Roe is just fine the way it is. Lousy, conservative writes on L &O. I am disappointed in the show.

HARD TIMES = HARD CHOICES | by Carole Joffe, Ms. Washington Correspondent

A new report from the Guttmacher Institute gives
useful empirical backing for what most people already know: Bad
economic times like the present significantly affect individual’s and
couple’s repro...ductive decisions. (In fact, the only people who don’t
seem to grasp this intuitively are rightwing Republicans like House
Minority leader John Boehner, who last winter famously mocked the
inclusion of a modest proposal in the original stimulus package to
increase family planning funding and ultimately forced the removal of
this provision). Read more... http://sn.im/s70ms

This is a needed step. Step two: let's tell the story of the modern day underground within our own country: women and children fleeing from an abusive court system. I've spent weeks reading the stories and most Americans would never imagining what's happening here because heaven forbid you question a judge or take on the system.
