There are lots of types of participial phrases. I'll leave you to learn about them all. The one that drives me bonkers, though, is present participial, and when they're stuck at the beginning of the sentence.

I know the folks who read this blog are good, sane, upstanding authors who try really hard to follow the guidelines and stuff. But in case you have friends who maybe need to hear this, I'm going to try to dispel some misconceptions...
