Muntu Dance Theatre of Chicago presents its 2009 Fall Concert Series, "The Sankofa Project", at the Gary Comer Youth Center, 7200 South Ingleside Ave (the corner of 72nd & S. South Chicago Ave, Chicago).

Sankofa is an Adinkhra symbol from the Akan people in Ghana, West Africa that means "go back to the past in order to ...build for the future". "The Sankofa Project" is Muntu's artistic effort to exemplify the wisdom from our past to connect to our future. This concert will feature key works from Muntu's history, such as Kakilambe and Fangama, as we bring them "back to the future".

Also included will be the World Premiere of "Legend: A Tribute to Michael Jackson", showcasing new choreography by Amansu Eason, feature dancer for Muntu Dance Theatre and principal artist for Indiana's South Shore Dance Alliance. Muntu will also present the company premiere of "Bride from the South" choreographed by Abdel Salaam, Executive Director of Forces of Nature.
