Debra Salter The museums afford a nice respite from the hustle of our lives. I have always enjoyed Museum of Science and Industry for the authentic Main Street, among many of their exhibits. Being a history buff, find the Field Museum, with Egyptian exhibit, to be awe-inspiring. An afforable outing, even in these times, that continue to educate and entertain.

I still think the time I spent working at The Field Museum was some of the best I ever had ♥
Sad that our museums are going through a rough patch due to the economy, but hopefully they'll rebound soon enough.

Freddy Atkins I've worked at a lot of them and still love them all. Remember to support them by visiting them and telling other people about what they have to offer. I love working at MSI come visit!!!

Rana What can I say. As a kid growing up in the Chicago burbs, the Museums (the Field, Alder Planetarium, MSI, Art Inst., etc) were are the heartbeat of the City! Fieldtrips and fun family times. As an adult I discovered the wonders of Mexican Fine Arts Museum, the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum and many more. LOVE THEM ALL!

Brian L. Orlinsky I just visited the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum for their 10th anniversary. What a great place! The Crittercam exhibit was wonderfull!

Judy Partipilo Marth Well, maybe "work" isn't the right term, but the museums certainly do give the people of Chicago, especially the children, an opportunity to see and experience things they most likely will not have anywhere else. And most importantly, museums can spark an interest in something that may never have even been thought of b...efore - an interest in science, history, art, culture, nature...pretty important stuff in my view.

Bradley Bergey I'm partial to the Art Institute of Chicago. My favorite museum memory is not one memory, but a composite of lots of memories: finding an off time when there are less folks around, popping in some head phones and a favorite album, and walking through a landscape of others' imagination.

Cathy Feit Purciful My 6 and 5 year still talk about being a hot dog, smelling unique Chicago smells, and balancing Chicago pizza again other pizza slices at the Chicago History Museum.....and that was 2 years ago!

Todd Mattei Sorry, I thought this was a different sort of group. I love visiting all of the museums here, but I have my doubts that some of them "work for Chicago".

Joni I have many favorite Chicago museum memories: working the late (10pm - 4am) shift at the Museum of Contemporary Art's Summer Solstice (r.i.p.) events, watching William Kentridge's "Drawings for Projections" at the MCA, seeing the Hindu sculpture at the Art Institutue a semester after I'd studied Southeast Asian art his......tory, giving public tours at the MCA, and many wonderful memories of working with a lot of great people at the MCA. (Yes, I ♥ the MCA.)

Mary Eileen Sullivan I love Chicago's museums and zoos. I grew up in the suburbs and am very grateful for my brother and sister in law who were kind enough to take me on many visits to the Museum of Science and Industry and the Brookfield Zoo when they were high school sweethearts. Most of my favorite memories of the Art Institute are th...e trips I took with my Mom. She really loved the Impressionism pieces and taught me to to love those paintings as well as other types of art. (I recall dragging her out of the Modern section - I just didn't get it back then.) By far, my favorite exhibit at the MSI that big heart. I just loved walking thru that when I was a kid. I'm really looking forward to taking my nephew to You! the Experience soon.

Argelia Morales I met my husband at the Chicago History Museum.

Beth Botts I went to school across the park from the Museum of Science and Industry back when it was free. We'd often spend lunchtime prowling every inch of the museum, from hatching baby chicks to giant beating heart to my favorite -- the body slices in the stairwell. When I was 10 or 11, I'd go downtown on the train to Saturday... classes at the Art Institute. They failed to make an artist of me, but after class the instructors would open a door and turn us kids loose in the museum. I learned so much and gained so much from those hours of wandering and discovering famous art and obscure art with no assumptions and no tour guide. And I made friends among the portraits whom I still go visit. Today, I'm afraid, few kids ever get turned loose in a museum. What a shame. But I'm still a member of several museums and grateful for all of them.

Nancy Dexter Gosh, when I was a teenager, I'd spend all my summers either at the Field, Brookfield Zoo, or Lincoln Park Zoo. I went to Brookfield so much, I knew the shpeel from the tram word for word. As an adult, whenever my family comes to Chicago for a visit, the first place we hit is Brookfield Zoo. It was the BZ that start...ed my love of elephants (RIP, Affie). I extended my trip to Chicago a day just so my daughter could see the unveiling of Sue at the Field. Everytime we encounter someone reading about Sue in the library, my daughter proudly says, "I was there to see her when they first showed her to the world"!
