Mysore Banyans

Mysore Banyans A couple of roadside banyans on JLB Rd., near MUDA Circle. They are not considered heritage of value. Presumably, they pose a threat to foundation of buildings closeby.

Mysore Banyans As I mentioned in an e-mail to ERR's online group, I re-discovered the Kukkrahalli Lake banyans this morning. I was vaguely familiar with their presence, but didn't realise that there were this many and their drop-roots made such a landscape sculpture . And I have been in Mysore for five years.

Mysore Banyans How they showcase the banyan at Lahaina, Hawaii:
1) Native craft demonstrations and fairs are occasionally held
in the Banyan Sq.
2) Park benches surround the outskirts of the square.

Roadside banyan on JLB Rd.
I used to swing on those drop-roots there on Jhansi Lakshmi Bai Road,
when they and I were a lot younger. That was a regular route on that
calm wide road, with wide foot paths on either side, for our market
errands or to the Rotary Club with my grandfather. We went by foot to
most places if we had... time - we usually had - and went by bus at other
times. Those roots bring back memories when I pass by it even now 35-40
years later. .... D R Dinakar made the comment in response to a FORT-Mysore blog post - http://fortmysore.blogspot.com/2008/11/heritage-trees-5-and-still-counting.html

How do we get it on Mysore tourism map ?
1) Input from informed Mysore residents on this space would help collect resource and
reference material on the banyans - there are two on the Baden Powell
schoolyard.
2) Scouts & Guides at training camps can be encouraged to explore the schoolyard banyans.
3) The banyan can be a to...pic for class-room project of local schools, a subject for students painting competition.
4)Royal Mysore Walks can develop a banyans walk.
