It's Take Action Tuesday! Titan Cement wants to build one of the nation’s largest cement factories in eastern NC that will emit dangerous amounts of mercury and other hazardous pollutants. However, Titan has by-passed a NC law so that they can be granted an air pollution permit prior to the completion of their Environm...ental Impact Statement (a report on the public health and environmental impacts of the plant). The NC Division of Air Quality recently released the draft air permit and is accepting public comments until Friday, Nov. 20th - submit your comment today with a click of a button! http://ncconservationnetwork1.org/campaign/titanairpermitRead More

“The draft permit, would allow the kilns at the plant to discharge far more pollutants than EPA’s new standards would allow. For instance, the state would allow Titan to emit over eight times more mercury into the air than would be allowed under the new limits. ...

NC Conservation Network wanted to pass along this article because we so seldom hear stories
in the news media today of passionate people doing great work--cheers,
Marty! http://www.ncconservationnetwork.org/mainblog/cheers-marty

This past weekend, there was a great article in the New Bern Sun Journal about a man contributing his time and passion to cleaning up the Neuse River. Marty Lawrence is a volunteer of the Neuse RiverKeeper Foundation, and takes part in two of their programs: RiverWatch and Muddy Water Watch. ...
Dave

Dave Raleigh is not alone in pedestrian danger. Smaller cities such
as Rocky Mount and Burlington (which have 65-70 mph highways) are among NC's
most dangerous. Do pedestrians try to cross their
local freeway at-grade? Is NCDOT too generous with
multi-lane motorist conveniences but too stingy to provide even a box
culvert for pedestrians?
