Joseph Somers

Joseph Somers All - I have a question about trail running shoes. I am somewhat new to trail running and am wondering what your opinions might be re: Gore-Tex for running in snow, rain and muddy conditions. I know they keep your feet dry but they are also NOT very breathable and do NOT let water out easily if it gets inside the shoe. What is your experience?

Not at this time. To far logistically to put on a great event. Maybe some time in the future though.

NJ Trail Series

NJ Trail Series The courses are set for the NJ Winter Trail Series. Start Finish will be by the Pavilion at the Sunrise Lake in Lewis Morris Park (Morristown NJ). The courses are about 90% single track with the remaining 10% dirt fire roads. Very runnable and you can expect a fast time. No matter the weather (rain, sleet, snow) the course should hold up well.

I would consider Turkey Swamp to be Central. I have tried about every trail I can find, and the best is the Batona Trail, which goes through three state forests. Both Wharton and Byrne also have shorter trails too. They are all pretty flat and sandy. If I want rocks and hills, I go to Wissahickon Park in phl or even valley forge

Laura McGarry Novak

Laura McGarry Novak I am new to trail running and having fun with all the snow, ice and slush... I've heard that I may want to invest in a pair of YakTrax. Do anyone in this group use them? Do they work? Do they affect your gait? Are there issues if you go from snowy trail to dry asphalt? Thanks for your thoughts!

I absolutely love my Yaktrax. Yaktrax work best on packed snow and ice. I was able to wear one pair for almost three winters before the rubber snapped from wear. No problems with gait, but of course you have to lift your knees higher to get over the snow anyway. They are especially helpful when the snow is soft but there is ice underneath. If ... See Moreyou just have soft snow, Yaktrax won't help much. Just be prepared to use some strength to pull them on and off when your hands are cold. I wrote the company an email and suggested they sell a small tool to pull them on and off- sure you have something in your tool box that would do the trick too. As an alternate to Yaktrax I am sure some of the long time runners can tell you how to put sheet metal screws into the bottom of your old trai shoes, too. Hear they work just as well.
