NYLON To put it mildly the Iosono 3D sound system is like nothing you have ever heard before. We were lucky enough to be set with the job of creating a theatrical logo animation for the system to be used in front of any movies using the new technology. Inspired by a demonstration, we created a visual story that would complem...ent the various soundscapes in the piece and help to thread it all together. The animation and sound system will be debuting at the Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood sometime in October!

NYLON We were tasked with creating a promo for ABC hi-lighting them as the number one place to get all your up to the minute info on the Democratic and Republican Conventions. Using the visual vernacular of a voting ballot as the foundation for the concept, we created two spots showcasing each nominee and their respective c...onvention. Earlier ideas for the concept included dressing Joe up as Uncle Sam and throwing Jason and Bryan into donkey and elephant suits. While we love what we ended up with, we think ABC might have missed the boat on our other more "creative" ideas.

NYLON Ever have one of those crazy days that starts off with you chasing around your kids while simultaneously cartwheeling into your office, battling your boss with a ruler, then running across the floor and doing a back hand spring and landing in the waiting lap of your spouse? No? Well to be honest we haven't either, but ...when that day comes around you can bet we'll be popping these vitamins like they were candy. Sweet sweet energy candy... Mmmmm..

NYLON This show open for the ABC Family show Middle Man was spawned from Bryan's fond memories of sneaking into James Bond Movies as a kid but only to watch the main titles. Not many people know this, but Bryan begged his mom to make bed sheets and pillow cases of his favorite frames from the works of Maurice Binder and Saul... Bass and to this day the opening sequence to "Moonraker" is the only thing that can send him off to Dreamland.

NYLON We had the great opportunity to collaborate with our new friends at Branding and Communications agency, WASH on this looping logo animation. We created the logotype and designed and animated the whole sequence. WASH came to us with their mantra of "filtering out all the goop until you are left with a single core idea."... We kinda took them literally. Starting inside a magnified single drop of black liquid the camera pulls out as beautiful colors begin to reveal and wrap around the liquid form. The drop plummets down and splashes up leaving a colorful graphic party in it's wake. Finally everything settles down and we are left with the strong and classic typography of their shiny new logo. After a moment of tension with the sound design, the logo explodes outward and fills the screen with black once more. Our animation can be found turning heads on several giant HDTVs in their beautiful new space.

NYLON Ah the 70's. The birth of classic rock and a time when cruising in your American made van sporting shiny Crager rims and listening to Bad Finger, Skynyrd and Led Zeppelin on 8 track was pretty much the norm. The vans were lovingly adorned with airbrushed art depicting mystical creatures and characters set in fantasy wo...rlds. It was with this idea that this commercial for the new 2008 Honda Odyssey was born. Working with agency RPA, we helped craft a fantastic journey that starts on the side of an old van and ends up in an enchanted field where the new 2008 Odyssey rises out of a pool like Excalibur, surrounded by dancing mushrooms and crystals that magically grow out of the ground. "Puff, Puff, Give" my friends.

NYLON We like-a-da' type, and anyone who knows us personally knows that we worship at the altar of Herb Lubalin. So when it came time to build our own brand we designed about 100 logos from words that we all associate with, and in an homage to the great man, made our own type wall. A few months later, IDN asked us to contrib...ute to their 15th Anniversary book and DVD so we decided to see what would happen if we brought the wall of typography to life. This is a fun little journey through a typographic landscape where the sense of ground and space gets a little messy at times. Speaking of space... keep an eye out for an AT-AT that may have mated with a shopping cart. We like to think of this piece as one of Joe's high school acid flashbacks that comes back to say "hello" every now and then.

NYLON Intelligence comes in all forms right? For some it could be a strong grasp of the ABC's, or an understanding of the critical mistake playing with a hairdryer in the kiddie pool can be. For others it's being informed of what mortgage best fits their needs. We were assigned the task of translating some very dry mortgage ..."hoopla" into a bunch of really fun and memorable commercials. The result is an 8 spot campaign that not only makes us feel warm and tingly on the inside, it makes us want to re-finance our (imaginary) homes. See Ditech? We're learning already!

NYLON Sometimes an awesome opportunity just doesn't pan out in the end. Such was the case when we won the pitch on a spot for Leo Burnett, Detroit to bring a DC comics character and his world to life. The piece was commissioned to be a vehicle (pun intended) to introduce both the comic, a brand spankin new song from the band... P.O.D. and the 2007 Pontiac Solstice. A combination of 2D Cel animation and 3D stylized rendered environments were composited together to nicely sum up our vision for the spot. Unfortunately the project was cancelled during pre-production.
Que sera sera.

NYLON If you've ever wondered what hundreds and hundreds of pieces of origami paper look like transforming into fish and animals, a dragon, and a pop-locking robot then look no further my friends. This project took a small army of traditional animators + one origami artist about two months to complete. Through paper-cuts and... sleepless nights, we brought this fantasy world to life using a combination of stop-motion animation and compositing. Bryan directed the live action, animation and crazy robot action. We first shot the band on DV, then printed out every other frame, and painstakingly cut each head out so that our animators could replace them with every click of the shutter on our digital camera. Thank God for interns. Seriously.

NYLON This video tells the story of two people and their connection to each other shown throughout four different time periods . The thread of the narrative runs through an art gallery in which patrons watch the stories unfold in the framed art on the walls. We used a combination of live action, 3d and 2d animation, composit...ing, and cel-animation to complete it. This being Jason's directorial debut, he became obsessed with the piece and was not seen much for the two months of post-production. By the end, he was found passed out in his home office from sleep depravation and it took a small army of baby pandas to nurse him back to health. Thankfully he made it through the ordeal and today he enjoys sleeping, playing wii tennis, and watching re-runs of Ninja Warrior. (As a side note, no baby pandas were exploited in the making of this video.)
