I was startled at Brad Stone's dismissal of genuine privacy concerns by
Facebook users in his interview by J.D, even going so far as to suggest
that naive people were simply whining. Yes, it's a hoary old
(reasonable) chestnut that some persons are uncomfortable with having
their sexual orientation predicted by an examinat...ion of their friends.
Would Mr. Stone be as casual about the identification of a member of
the Iran Resistance by Iranian government officials with an outcome of
imprisonment, injury or death? Facebook has "outted" millions of users
without notice who expected the privacy they signed up for by placing
their names, faces and friends on the Internet at large. I can only
hope the U.S. State Department is talking to Facebook. Mr. Stone needs
to sit back and think a little.
