Back from the trade show and back to work on my art. I got Joe finished
after talking to Brenda Mattson and getting some tips from her. I still
have some tweaking to do on the grass and just a little bit on Joe
himself, but he's pretty much done. To read Joe's full story, go here:

Nancy Pingree Hoover The trade show is going wonderfully!! Completed 2 workshops & am very excited to get back to my studio with all my new boards, pencils, & other supplies!! Met many new people & saw some old friends. Spoke to Tom of Uart, Brenda of Richeson's, and Dana of Ampersand. Helped Golden set up their booth & bought a couple of their great interference fluid acrylics to play with.

I have been using my Figure Artist software, which is a type of Poser program, and learning more about it. There are three poses that I have needed for certain paintings, but can not find an appropriate model, or a willing model who will pose for me. I now have all three poses, thanks to this program. It's wonderful!! ...I'm trilled to get these paintings sketched out and begin on them and I did not need to go out and find and pay for the appropriate models!!Read More

Here's my "Study In White I ," completed except for a few tweaks. I may deepen the shadows a bit more to bring out the highlights, but other than that, this is done. See my blog for more infomation on how I painted this.

Spent five hours yesterday working on a new inspirational, big one (Cowboys for Christ- 18" x 24"). Today, worked on yet another inspirational piece (The Great Compromiser - 14" x 18"). I set up my model on "Poser for Artists," a great software program for artists for when we don't have or can't afford our own models.... I am finally happy with the model and am ready to sketch it out! Now to finish "Study on White I".Read More

Got an incredible deal on Prismas yesterday. Stayed up most of the night setting it up (once I figured out where to put it that is).
I got this Prismacolor colored pencil display AND 468 Prismacolor pencils for $30.00!!!!!! Most incredible deal I've EVER had!!!
And yes, I do still need to order more pencils. :D

This is my newest piece. It's a study in white. The focus is on the white drapery, not the canister. I added the canister for just a bit of color, but also for the colorful reflecctions onto the drapery. None of it is completed yet. It's a work-in-progress.

Nancy Pingree Hoover I've finished the second in my "Faces of Love" shelter series, the Golden Retriever and was finally able to get a decent pic of him. The details of this painting (and about whether or not he was adopted or met his end at the shelter) are all written in my blog. You'll have to go read it there. Aren't I evil? :D http://nancypingreehoover.blogspot.com

Nancy Pingree Hoover I have finally finished the Golden Retriever, but I have to wait for better weather to take the photo of it so I can post it. It's dark and gloomy today. But, now I have started a new one, and am picking up work on another one I had out aside for a bit. Pics to follow soon!

Nancy Pingree Hoover Back to yard work today. Ugh, I'm still sore from yesterday! I did get to spend several hours on my Golden retriever too! Didn't get a pic of it though because I finished too late in the day and it's getting dark. Should be able to finish it tomorrow and post a pic then.

Nancy Pingree Hoover Had a successful weekend thus far. Dropped off my paintings for the show on Friday, will know if I got juried in by Thursday. Today, I judged a horse show all day; finished just in time for the rain to begin. Baked bread (from scratch) and cooked supper. Family dinner at my place tomorrow, then back to painting!! :D

Nancy Pingree Hoover I have an update on the golden retriever. I got quite a bit done yesterday, but we'll be going to my church's homecoming this weekend, so I don't know how much I will be able to do on this until Sunday. I also have two articles posted on my blog about this painting, if you would like to follow along in more detail.

Nancy Pingree Hoover Update on the golden retriever. I'll be writing about this in more detail in my art blog this afternoon, if you are interested in reading it. You can see a detailed close-up pic in the pretty boy's photo album too.

Just started on a new shelter animal portrait. This one is a Golden
Retriever and it's a close-up. It's on white pastelbord. I painted a
layer of steel grey Neocolor over the bord first as an underpainting.
Now I am sketching in the highlights and the darkest areas.
If I can just get the reddish-golden color of his beauti...ful fur correct
I'll be very happy. I'll be posting this, with more details, in my blog
with my next WIP post.Read More
