Steve Burton The BIGGEST and BEST Flea Mkt of the year going on this weekend !!! Over 2,300 booths !!! This could very well be the last October Flea Mkt we ever have if our Mayor shuts us down June 30th. Don't miss "The Big One" !!

Tennessee State Fair Update: The fairgrounds will be turned over to Metro Nashville finance department on 6/30/10. As of today there are no plans for the continuance of the Tennessee State Fair and no permanent home for the 271 events that take place on the fairgrounds throughout the year. Casualties: flea market, bead show, glass show, christmas village, tailgate antique show, antique auto show....the list is quite robust!

Where are all the native Nashvillians?? It seems like someone, or organization or entity would have stepped up to the plate by now to SAVE the State Fair.

Just so you know, we're starting our advertising tomorrow for the upcoming flea market weekend...and supposedly there's a company setting up a booth to share their new entity called: the nashville flea market...stay tuned. I'll keep you all posted as I get information. It's not the fair or track but it's a great start! I don't know how to win for sure, but I know how to fight and be heard!

It was. The fair is over and the fairgrounds are being taken over by metro finance on 6/30/10. As far as I know there is no plan in place for a 2010 fair and no permanent home for the other 271 events held at the fairgrounds site over the year.

Tennessee State Fair What's next for the state fair property? Shutting down on June 30th? What happens to flea market, Christmas Village, Gun Shows, Tailgate Antique Shows? Anyone want to form a joint venture and build an expo center? If Nashville doesn't, outlaying counties will!

Lori Beverley Flint The thing I like best about the Fair is the diversity and variety of the people, exhibits, food, etc. It is like it's only little melting pot. How sad to see such an institution just vanish because some people have no vision.

Tennessee State Fair asks you to attend the Fair Board of Commissioners meeting on Tuesday, October 6th at 4 p.m. in Wilson Hall. The people still have a voice in this city...if they speak up at least!

I would love to see the State Fair remain in place. People have spoken in the past about certain areas of town that need to be demolished... With a little patience they rebounded, like downtown, east nashville and other like places. We just keep going and look for innovation instead of file 13. Innovation/creativity is what our Mayor needs instead of just giving up.

My family and I are from Kentucky and for the last 8 years we have showed sheep at Tennessee State Fair. We love coming to the fair every year and look forward to the next year. Right now we are worried beacause alot of people have been talking about cutting out livestock shows. If that happends we throw away a family ...tradition of over 4 generations of showing sheep. Every year at the fair we usually spend more money than we make, with food, entry fees, sometimes motels, gas money, and other stuff we need to show. Dont get me wrong we enjoy the fair and just because we dont make anything we still enjoy coming because its a hobby and a family tradition. Like most other livestock exhibitors. As long as the fair stays and as long as we are healthy and able no matter how much money will spend we will still come to the fair and enjoy it. Please everyone go out and let Tennessee people know that the fair needs to stay and also to keep the livestock shows. How many kids and even adults theseRead More

I hope you will write the TN Governor, Representatives and the Nashville Mayor with your comments. I don't know if any of them really know what commerce and agriculture mean to the rural communities and future generations of farmers. I for one am very proud of your family tradition! Be a part of the solution to find a new home, and continue this great heritage.

I am from Kentucky also. I haven't shown goats for a couple of years now but I hate to see happen. It just makes me sick to think about it.

Thanks, Stu! We can only hope enough people want it to continue...it's not always about development and money...sometimes it has to be about traditions and carrying them on for our kids. Agriculture IS the bedrock of this great city!

Paul Martin

Paul Martin Like everyone here, I also LOVE the TN State Fair and have been 20+ times in my life.

No doubt, everyone enjoys the competitions ... maybe a COMPROMISE for future fairs would be to drop (or mostly cut back) the midway aspect and leave what goes on at "the top of the hill". Just trying to help.

Thanks to the 2009 board and staff. It was awesome !

Thanks, Paul...don't give up yet...it's not the midway that is so expensive necessarily...the year round staff is expensive, the building maintenance is high because there have been very few dollars allowed for upkeep and the livestock competitions actually cost more than anything from a % perspective. This year, we had such a good deal with the ... Read Moremidway company that we MADE money on the rides. It's a lot of information, but I think we deserve the opportunity to look at it as a CITY...not just a board. I hope someone steps up and looks at the big picture!

Thanks! I hope we can get the governor to talk to us about finding a new piece of property. Metro has it somewhere and maybe if metro and state worked together, there could be a viable solution. I wonder where they're going to get all the hotel room tax revenue and sales tax revenue that they're going to lose now? We generated over 20,000 room nights at the fairgrounds...that helped to subsidize the convention center, municipal and farmer's market...now where is the money coming from?
