VUMC House Organ Where does the money from Vanderbilt's Community Giving Campaign go? Jessica Pasley answers that question in the October House Organ. Also: A nurse saves a life on a crowded plane, and Watching the Wheels has a shout-out to Rocky Mountain National Park and the hotel that inspired The Shining.

The pet poll is back under way. One vote, one person, please.
Check out the web site for the details, but voting was suspended for the weekend because the volume of votes, many from automated voting programs, was a burden to Vanderbilt's servers.
In a little over a week, almost 2 million votes came in for dog and cat of... the year--which is more votes than either presidential candidate got in Tennessee.
It's a good thing no money or a set of luggage or something wasn't at stake--things might have gotten out of hand.

VUMC House Organ The only people at VUMC who are not eligible to send photos for consideration for the House Organ Pets of the Medical Center issue are those who work in News and Public Affairs—so the boss, Bill Hance, decreed that NPA staffers should have their own place to show off cats and dogs.

The annual House Organ Pets of the Medical Center issue will be out Friday, Feb. 6. For the first time we’re asking House Organ readers to vote on their favorite dogs and cats from the list of nominees posted on the House Organ Web site, http://www.mc.vanderbilt.edu/houseorgan/.
The panel of judges have selected a gen...erous slate of nominees—20 dogs and 14 cats—to be voted upon, with the winner to be declared, based on the number of votes, at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 24.
In the interest of the survival of the editor and the panel of judges, it should be acknowledged that the selection of the pets to be included in the issue, and the further selection of the 20 finalists of each of the major name-brand pet species, was quite difficult and we understand there may be some disagreement that takes two major forms:
Form number one: “My dog or cat is so cute.” Form number two: “That dog or cat you boneheads selected as a finalist is not nearly as cute as mine.”
We understand. We have pets, too. They are all spectacularly cute. Please don’t hurt us.
