I understand what you're saying Vicki, but not only were there peaceful protests in the 1960s, but there were many instances of civil disobedience (not violence -- that's not what I'm saying here) that were much more effective than just walking around, carrying a sign, and yelling a slogan.

Please follow this link. This bill, if passed by the Senate could "correct a longstanding injustice, end a blatant inequity in the tax code and help make health care coverage more affordable for more Americans".

National Equality March Sign the petition for Speaker Pelosi to Speak For Equality. Spread the word. Agitate!

Source: speakforequality.org
The rights of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community have been stripped away twice in the last year. Join us in calling on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to make a real commitment to LGBT civil rights. We demand equality, and we won't accept compromises.

National Equality March This is why we need a federal strategy for full equality. The Ft. Worth community is currently fighting for "crumbs" of equality and being told...sorry...you don't deserve them. Too costly. Clearly we voted against anything that could give rights that resembled the same rights of a marriage between a man/woman.

Instead of demanding all these separate rights - to marry, work, serve in the military, be safe in school - we should be demanding that congress pass the Unconditional Constitutional Equality Act. This law would guarantee that our rights will never be denied by any state, tyrannical theocRAT voting block, courts or the federal government. Our rights... Read More must never require the approval, acceptance, tolerance or agreement of any elected or appointment officials, individuals or voters.

I believe that if we demand the Unconditional Constitutional Equality Act we will succeed.

National Equality March In case you missed this a couple days ago, please add your voice! Prop 8s and Referendum 1s will continue to happen until Pelosi and the Democrats put an end to this once and for all. Maine is another case for federal action...have you spoken to your Representative or Senator yet?

The rights of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community have twice been stripped away at the ballot in the last year: first in California, and then in Maine. This is not just an attack on marriage equality. It is an attack on civil rights.

National Equality March A must read on ENDA with concrete tools to take action NOW!

Source: www.bilerico.com
Our next step in our federal agenda should be focusing on ENDA in the Senate. Of all our initiatives, that will affect the largest number of people in our community in the most important area of our lives: the ability to get and keep a job. And it's achievable in the next few months.

Don't forget that Washington, DC will be voting to recognized same-sex marriage next week! I am forwarding this from Adam Dahl and the DC for Marriage group on Facebook

This is what I understand to be true…same-gender marriage has 10 co-sponsors on a 13 member DC Council and is therefore expected to pass next week. As with any newly passed DC Act, Congress has the power to prohibit it from becoming DC Law within a 30-Day Review Period. It’s therefore critical to have the record reflect overwhelming support for marriage equality. I’m writing to ask you to submit a written testimony to become a permanent record of the bill. Will you, please?

Here is a suggested format for you to follow....... Read More

Intro: Testimony by (Your Name) on Bill 18-482, Religious Freedom and Civil Marriage Equality Amendment Act of 2009 before the Committee on Public Service and the Judiciary on (Today’s Date)...

1. Universally thank the bill’s introducers 2. Briefly tell your story and stance 3. Ask the Council to pass the bill 4. Close with your contact information, including address, phone and email.

Emails count as equally as paper letters. Send your testimony to dkelly@dccouncil.us or letter to
Ms. Deborah Kelly, Secretary to the Council
John A. Wilson Building
1350 Pennsylvania Ave NW, Room 5
Washington DC 20004

These testimonies will be accepted up until 5 PM on Monday, 11/9/09. It makes no difference whether you reside in DC, and each voice has equal representation.
Whether you’re motivated by successes in places like Iowa or disheartened by temporary set-backs in places like Maine, please see this as your chance to be heard. It matters. It sure as hell matters to whether you’ll ever get an invite to my DC wedding.

I am writing my email testimony and sending it now. What about you?
