National Storytelling Network
Presenter: Dr. Hannah Harvey, Kennesaw State University Tellers

A Storytelling Experimental Experience featuring live performances by the internationally recognized KSU Tellers along with an interactive discussion with Dr. Hannah Harvey make this a workshop not to miss!

The British Theatre Guide calls this a "Four-Star ...Review!" and storyteller Milbre Burch believes it "charts a path that stretches between storytelling and theatre."

The KSU Tellers incorporate movement, music, and poetry in their dynamic storytelling of several works including an original adaptation of the Old English epic, Beowulf. Harvey will take us "behind the scenes" to look at the techniques and artistry used.

It is Something Old using Something New and Something You will want to Experience!

Presenter: Sara Armstrong, Ph.D

Change is often challenging--we all know that. Indeed, a friend often says, "Change is good--you go first." We all know, too, that change is necessary, perhaps more often than we'd like. Future stories provide an effective strategy that helps us consider and address the process of cha...nge. Through future stories, we can create a climate for successful change by seeing ourselves as if the innovation we are engaged with has already happened with a positive outcome.

Sara Armstrong, Ph. D, former Storytelling in Organizations SIG Chair, will share the future stories strategy she has used with educators who are implementing changes in teaching and learning. Participants will also have an opportunity to start a future story of their own. This strategy is based on a process by Steven Denning.

Presenter: Judith Black, Circle of Excellence Oracle Award Winner

A sign in Judith Black's office reads: "Forgiveness means giving up all hope of having a better past." Holding on to wrongs done, pains inflicted, and injustices perpetrated upon us is certainly grounding. We know who to hate, to fear, to shun, and we... are quickly defined by these deeply held convictions. But when we demarcate our lives and ourselves in this way, chances are we aren't having much fun, nor are the folks with whom we share our days.

Can we use stories to drink this pain out of our hearts, and make room for forgiveness and the light that follows? Alas, there is no step-by-step diagram or curriculum guide, but we will contemplate and explore this journey in our time together. Sharing segments from longer stories, anecdotes about process, and welcoming input from participants, we'll attempt to sculpt possibilities that everyone can probe, scrutinize and try.
