Thank you for rocking with us! …..And a big thank you to NCS volunteer and concert organizer Sandra Small of SmallWorld Music who hosted the Rock Against Homelessness benefit concert in Central Park on September 18 that resulted in hundreds of dollars in cash donations and over three thousand five hundred in kind. Proceeds will benefit Emporium Online (EO), NCS’s on-the-job training program.

Neighborhood Coalition for Shelter Anne Teicher, CEO of Neighborhood Coalition for Shelter, talks about S.R.O. living in the New York Times. “Some people just need a reasonably priced place to live, which doesn’t really exist any more, especially on the Upper East Side, probably anywhere in Manhattan and increasingly in the outer boroughs,” (A.G. Sulzb...erger, http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/19/nyregion/19melon.html). http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/19/nyregion/19melon.html

The four floors above J.G. Melon, the Upper East Side restaurant with the rarefied air, are a different remnant of old New York: single-room occupancy residences.
