North Carolina’s first capitol will put on its annual spectacular display of fall color on October 9-11 as Tryon Palace Historic Sites & Gardens celebrates ‘Mum’s the Word!’ Tryon Palace’s many gardens will be wildly colorful with over 2,500 chrysanthemums and other fall blooms showing off their autumn colors.
Tryon... Palace Historic Sites & Gardens will open all gardens free to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Oct. 10-11, and on Sunday, Oct. 12 hours are 11:30 a.m. until 6 p.m.
In addition to the autumnal beauty of thousands of mums, visitors to Tryon Palace Historic Sites & Gardens will enjoy the following activities:

Heritage Plant Sale: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Heritage Plant Sale offers visitors the opportunity to purchase unique, rare and historic plants for their home gardens. Fig trees, apricot trees, Confederate roses, hydrangeas, which have been l grown on site, will be available for purchase. Tryon Palace's gardeners will be on hand throughout the sale to answer your planting questions. Free garden tours will be ongoing throughout the weekend.

Fife & Drum Corps Concerts: Sunday 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Enjoy performances by the Tryon Palace Fife & Drum Corps. Concerts take place outside on the Palace grounds. (In case of inclement weather, performances will be held in the Visitor Center auditorium.)
Interior tours of Tryon Palace and its other historic buildings will be offered at the regular price of $15 for adults and $6 for students (Grades 1-12) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 1:00 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Active duty military families always receive a $3 discount on the price of adult tickets and $1 off the price of student tickets. From classical music addicts to new converts, music lovers from all walks of life won't want to miss the seventh season of the Carolina Chamber Music Festival, delighting audiences September 10-19.
-The festival kicks off Thursday (Sept. 10) from noon to 1 pm at the Bank of the Arts (317 Middle Street). The Calyx Pia...no Trio returns to open CCMF with a musical feast of light classics! Admission is $10.
-On Sept. 12 at 8 pm, the Calyx Piano Trio will join forces with St. Louis Symphony Orchestra Principal Clarinetist Scott Andrews for Calyx and Friends. Arrive at 7:30 pm for a pre-performance discussion of the evening's musical selections with Co-Director Anna Reinersman. This event will take place at First Baptist Church (239 Middle St.) and is $20, or $15 for students and seniors.
-The Festive Family Concert will be on Sunday, Sept. 13. This fun and informal afternoon of discovery and adventure for kids of all ages will be held at the New Bern- Craven County Public Library from 3-4 pm. This program features local youth talents performing on string and percussion instruments alongside CCMF artists. Refreshments will be served and admission is free.
-Join CCMF musicians and radio personality Finley Woolston of Public Radio East on Thursday, Sept. 17 for the perfect way to end the day with Faure’ After Work. At 5:30 pm join the wine and cheese reception that is followed by a 6-7 pm French music featuring the Faure’s C-minor piano quartet. The concert and reception take place at the Bank of the Arts (317 Middle St.). Tickets are $20.
-The Festival Finale takes place Saturday, Sept. 19 at 8pm at Christ Episcopal Church Ministry Center (311 Middle St.). A preconcert discussion will be held at 7:30pm with Paul Crabtree. The programming features Mozart’s Oboe Quartet with Shea Scruggs, Assistant Principal Oboist of the Baltimore Symphony, Smetana’s stirring String Quartet No. 1, and the world premiere of the dramatic Ghost Train for mezzo-soprano, harp, oboe and strings. Audiences are invited to meet the artists at a post concert reception. Admission is $20 and $15 for students and seniors.
**Individual tickets are available for each event. A three-concert festival pass covering admission to Calyx and Friends, Faure’ After Work, and the Festival Finale is available for a reduced price of $50 general admission and $40 student or senior.
