Eight students (Safety Ambassadors) and one adult advisor from each of the 12 participating Middlesex County high schools attended this educational program presented by injury prevention professionals from the Level One Trauma Center’s Safe Kids Middlesex County Injury Prevention Coalition. The day included exposure to... a diverse curriculum of injury prevention and safety topics such as “Safety in and Around Cars,” “Wheeled Sports Safety,” “Pedestrian Safety” and “Falls Prevention.” All of these topics focused on the prevention of traumatic brain injury. The students and advisors were provided with a “Safety Ambassador Resource Kit” that includes the National Fire Protection Agency’s Risk Watch: Unintentional Injuries curriculum materials, lesson plans and supplemental resources for each topic from Safe Kids Worldwide. In addition, the day included an introduction to the Public Health Model of Injury Prevention and workshops on developing creative presentations and tips on working with elementary-age children.Read More
