New Hampshire Freedom to Marry Change does not roll in on the wheels of inevitability, but comes through continuous struggle. And so we must straighten our backs and work for our freedom. A man can't ride you unless your back is bent. Martin Luther King, Jr.

It astounds me how ignorant the American public is when people actually believe the people who spread lies in campaigns about homosexuality being taught in schools. Even when public officials in the state in question deny this charge, still the anti same-sex lobby puts it forward as fact. It's an outright lie and shame on gullible voters.

PROVIDENCE - Rhode Island lawmakers voted yesterday to allow same-sex and unmarried couples the right to plan the funerals of their late partners, overriding a veto by the governor, who warned it will erode traditional marriage.

Good. It's hard to fathom how allowing partners to plan funerals will erode traditional marriage - but what the Newt do I know?

Does anyone have a copy of that day's paper still? The NH GLBT History TimelinE Project (http://www.freewebs.com/nhqueertreasures) could use a copy for our photo section. We have a photo copy of the article that the Union Leader did on the 2007 Signing of NH Civil Unions. It would be great to have a copy of the Concord newspaper article to put in our photo section to help record and preserve the historic moment. Email me if you may have a copy (B/w or color) of the article.

In all honesty, it makes me sad actually that we had to wait for so long for a historic breakthrough in the basic ideals of civil rights. With that being said, marriage is truly between two people who have bonded unconditionally, and quite frankly need not have the acceptance of society as a whole. Its so much more than that. For myself, the only one i need to hear and say I do with is that of my partner. Nothing else matters.

Great news from the Lone Star State. After the setbacks in California and Maine, perhaps LGBT Americans and their supporters should focus our efforts on the nation's big cities which, like Houston, have greater familiarity with diversity, and feel more comfortable with it.

Garden State Equality is New Jersey's largest advocacy organization. Garden State Equality leads the statewide campaign for marriage equality and fights for all civil rights for LGBT people in New Jersey. The organization's membership comes from both the straight and ...LGBT communities. Visit www.GardenStateEquality.org to donate or to volunteer in our grassroots campaign against the civil union law's failure - thereby helping to win marriage equality in court. You may contact Garden State Equality at (973) GSE-LGBT or Contact@GardenStateEquality.org Since Garden State Equality’s founding in 2004, New Jersey has enacted 210 LGBT civil rights laws at the state, county and local levels – more LGBT laws enacted in less time than in any other state in history. A 2009 year-end study by www.eQualityGiving.com ranks New Jersey as #1 in the United States for LGBT civil rights, tied with California, Iowa and Vermont. "Garden State Equality has run the most effective grassroots campaign New Jersey has seen in years," writes the Star-Ledger. “Garden State Equality could be a model for the rest of the country,” writes the Associated Press. Garden State Equality is the only statewide civil rights organization in America ever to be featured in an Academy Award-winning film. "Freeheld" won the 2008 Oscar for Best Short Documentary. Garden State Equality's headquarters is in Montclair in North Jersey, with an office in Asbury Park serving Central Jersey and the Shore, an office in Collingswood serving South Jersey, and a legislative office in Trenton across from the State House. Garden State Equality is also the state’s only LGBT civil rights organization with full-time staff. A short film about Garden State Equality is at the bottom of this page under "Posted Items." Among the 210 laws Garden State Equality has gotten enacted: From 2004 to 2006, 12 expansions of the domestic partnership law. In 2006, a civil union law. In 2006, a law expanding the Law Against Discrimination to include the transgender community. In 2008, a law that simultaneously overhauled the state’s anti-bullying law, expanded the state’s hate crimes law to encompass the transgender community, and toughened up the entire hate crimes law to strengthen the fight against all bias-motivated violence. Also in 2008, New Jersey became only the second state in the United States, after California, to mandate paid family leave to employees who need to provide care for their same-sex partners. And in 2009, in conjunction with his speech at Garden State Equality’s annual Legends Dinner, Governor Corzine signed an executive order mandating that the state indicate gender on driver licenses in accordance with one’s own gender identity or expression – yet another milestone for transgender civil rights. Now Garden State Equality is fighting to bring marriage equality to New Jersey. Become a Facebook fan of Garden State Equality to keep up on our campaign. Together, let’s make American history again.
