Does anyone have a copy of that day's paper still? The NH GLBT History TimelinE Project (http://www.freewebs.com/nhqueertreasures) could use a copy for our photo section. We have a photo copy of the article that the Union Leader did on the 2007 Signing of NH Civil Unions. It would be great to have a copy of the Concord newspaper article to put in our photo section to help record and preserve the historic moment. Email me if you may have a copy (B/w or color) of the article.

In all honesty, it makes me sad actually that we had to wait for so long for a historic breakthrough in the basic ideals of civil rights. With that being said, marriage is truly between two people who have bonded unconditionally, and quite frankly need not have the acceptance of society as a whole. Its so much more than that. For myself, the only one i need to hear and say I do with is that of my partner. Nothing else matters.

Houston voters tonight have chosen an out lesbian as their next mayor, making the city the largest in the U.S. to elect an openly LGBT chief executive.

Great news from the Lone Star State. After the setbacks in California and Maine, perhaps LGBT Americans and their supporters should focus our efforts on the nation's big cities which, like Houston, have greater familiarity with diversity, and feel more comfortable with it.

Hooray for Houston! Well, it is if they voted her in for her qualifications and not because of her sexuality.

A 2009 year-end study by www.eQualityGiving.com ranks New Jersey as #1 in the United States for LGBT civil rights, tied with California, Iowa and Vermont. "Garden State Equality has run the most effective grassroots campaign New Jersey has seen in years," writes the Star-Ledger. “Garden State Equality could be a model for the rest of the country,” writes the Associated Press. Garden State Equality is the only statewide civil rights organization in America ever to be featured in an Academy Award-winning film. "Freeheld" won the 2008 Oscar for Best Short Documentary. Garden State Equality's headquarters is in Montclair in North Jersey, with an office in Asbury Park serving Central Jersey and the Shore, an office in Collingswood serving South Jersey, and a legislative office in Trenton across from the State House. Garden State Equality is also the state’s only LGBT civil rights organization with full-time staff. A short film about Garden State Equality is at the bottom of this page under "Posted Items." Among the 210 laws Garden State Equality has gotten enacted: From 2004 to 2006, 12 expansions of the domestic partnership law. In 2006, a civil union law. In 2006, a law expanding the Law Against Discrimination to include the transgender community. In 2008, a law that simultaneously overhauled the state’s anti-bullying law, expanded the state’s hate crimes law to encompass the transgender community, and toughened up the entire hate crimes law to strengthen the fight against all bias-motivated violence. Also in 2008, New Jersey became only the second state in the United States, after California, to mandate paid family leave to employees who need to provide care for their same-sex partners. And in 2009, in conjunction with his speech at Garden State Equality’s annual Legends Dinner, Governor Corzine signed an executive order mandating that the state indicate gender on driver licenses in accordance with one’s own gender identity or expression – yet another milestone for transgender civil rights. Now Garden State Equality is fighting to bring marriage equality to New Jersey. Become a Facebook fan of Garden State Equality to keep up on our campaign. Together, let’s make American history again.

Please stop this masochism. The NY state Senate has the right amount of conservative Democrats to negate any majority. They hate Paterson and the Republicans will do nothing to offend the theocratic homophobes in their party.
