The Parachute Factory

The Parachute Factory
Like a house of cards, the comfort and ease that a home brings has crumbled in the struggles of the mortgage crisis, record foreclosures and plummeting real-estate values. This jarring economic dislocation has exacerbated the ever-present reality of homelessness while adding to its ranks. Is home still a place of she...lter and retreat, a refuge where one’s domestic affections dwell? Or do these hard times illuminate the burden and dysfunction of home, the stress of possible eviction, and the cold realities of displacement and uprootedness? The second exhibition, OUT OF HOUSE AND HOME, explores artistic approaches to house, home and what it takes to have a place to call your own.
This exhibit is presented by the Parachute Factory in partnership with Columbus House.

Join us for the opening reception of our newest exhibit.

Whether one works to live or lives to work, the shaky economy has us all focused on job security. How does the act of work itself, in all its diversity, shape our identity? What are the viewpoints of refugees or immigrants in their attempts to gain an economic foo...thold in our so-called land of opportunity? The first of the two-part exhibition, WHITE COLLAR. BLUE COLLAR. PINK SLIP examines how artists have visualized the relationship with the workplace that confronts us daily…its uncertainties and anxieties, and, on the flip side, its rewards.
This exhibit is presented by the Parachute Factory in partnership with IRIS (Integrated Refugee and Immigrant Service).
