- Timothy Dwight College, commonly abbreviated and referred to as "TD", is a residential college at Yale University named after two university presidents, Timothy Dwight IV and Timothy Dwight V. It was built in 1935, at a cost of $2 million, and renovated in 2001-02. TD was designed by James Gamble Rogers in the American Federal style popular during the younger Timothy Dwight's presidency. The college was originally built to house 180 students, plus a number of fellows.
TD is known for its success in intramural sports, which have played an important part in students' lives from the start. TD captured its first of 11 Tyng Cups (awarded to the residential college with the best overall intramural performance) in 1937.
