Topic: Walking you through the Completion of a Graduate Degree (PhD emphasis)
Donald (DJ) Mitchell, Jr. is a native of Portsmouth, Va. Mr. Mitchell received his Bachelor’s of Science in Chemistry with summa cum laude distinction from Shaw University (the first HBCU in the South) ...in 2006. He also completed his Master’s of Science in educational leadership in one year with a 4.0 GPA from Minnesota State University, Mankato in 2007. Donald is in the final phase of completing a Ph.D. in educational policy and administration with an emphasis in higher education at the University of Minnesota. Donald’s research and academic interests include diversity issues in higher education, HBCUs, Black Greek-lettered Organizations and ethics in leadership. This past summer, Mr. Mitchell taught the math course during the SuperScholar/EXCEL summer program at Xavier. Mr. Mitchell also served as an instructor in educational leadership at Minnesota State University, Mankato for two years. Upon completing his PhD, Mr. Mitchell’s professional goal is to return to academia as an administrator in an Academic Affairs unit. His professional associations include the American Educational Research Association, the Association for the Study of Higher Education, the National Black Graduate Student Association, Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society, Beta Kappa Chi National Scientific Honor Society and Alpha Kappa Mu National Honor Society. Additionally, Donald is President & CEO of Harris, Mitchell & Co., an investment group he founded in 2006. Donald enjoys family, friends, investing, trivia and playing his trumpet. He is an active and proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

Her talk is entitled "Preparing for Graduate School … And Avoiding the Kiss of Death". The seminar will be in NCF 105 at 12:15 pm.
