Professional Development
Curtis is committed to the professional development of its attorneys. Curtis provides an array of Continuing Legal Education programs designed by our lawyers to provide associates with broad, basic knowledge of different practice and substantive areas. For our experienced lawyers, Curtis provides in-house educational seminars and collaborates with outside vendors for additional training. Ongoing professional training is also available for Curtis attorneys through periodic departmental meetings held to discuss current issues, provide updates in the law, and train new associates.
Work Assignments
Prior to the start of the summer, incoming Summer Associates are asked to rank their interest in the Firm's seven main departments (International Corporate, Litigation, Tax, Trusts and Estates, Bankruptcy and Creditors’ Rights, Intellectual Property and Real Estate). They are not obliged to select a permanent department. Curtis recognizes that it is difficult for law students, who have had little or no exposure to “real” legal work, to select a practice area. Curtis believes that the best way for Summer Associates to choose a practice area is by experiencing the different practice areas for themselves. For the first half of the Summer Program, Summer Associates are encouraged to sample work in any department that they would like. By the time of the mid-summer evaluations, each Summer Associate is asked to select the department for which they would like to work going forward. (read more)
