Jeremiah's Vanishing New York Insane: City wants to split a luxury condo building into separate zones, allowing the rich kids go to the nearby in-demand public school while the affordable-rental (steerage) kids have to trek across town.

Source: downtownexpress.com
One option for zoning Lower Manhattan’s elementary schools would cut through the Whole Foods building, giving luxury condo owners the key to P.S. 234 while the middle and low-income renters would go to the Spruce Street School half a mile away.

Jeremiah's Vanishing New York If you haven't yet seen the interview with the real man behind Wall Street's "Sad Panda," take a look now.

Be warned: this video of Sad Panda will melt even the coldest of hearts. The fact is that Sad Panda (sometimes Spongebob Squarepants) is actually pretty sad, and that makes us Sad Humans.

I can't decide which is sadder - Sad Panda or Rat Stuck in Sidewalk.

oh man, Rat Stuck in Sidewalk is so sad. but since Panda is a human being inside, i'll have to vote for him. although, come to think of it, there is something hopeful and enduring about Sad Panda, too, which mitigates the sadness.

Rat, Panda. a real toss-up.

A very interesting article. Though I do love many a cute kitty picture, the saturation with these cutesy images is over the top. Along with the self-infantilization, I see so much infantilization and coddling of kids and teens. Not sure they're related, though they both indicate a level of denial and a preference for dependency.

kitten pictures are irresistible. but you're right, there's a big societal picture here. it's like no one is really allowed to grow up.

Not surprising at all. It will happen to the extent of Brooklyn eventually. Don't underestimate the temptation of the big bucks the developers will offer to the Greek and Italian families for their properties. It happened in Flushing where I lived. So far, the tallest building in Sunnyside/LIC area is the Citibank tower but you're right, it's only a matter of time until Citibank is dwarved by other glass towers in their slow march east...
