On November 3, KREEMART and the American Patrons of Tate will combine to support a unique art event at the Haunch of Venison Gallery in New York City. The ethos behind the event is that art can be both nourishing and fun... like a cake.... where artists are invited to make a cake of their own design. Each artist decides how he/she wants to interpret the task and what to do with material - what kind of cake should it be, and what to do with documentation later. This year, four artists have been asked to work with leading New York chefs. Some artists are planning performances that may be filmed or photographed and become of their own work.

The four artists see an opportunity in this project to create something unique here-a thing that is to be remembered- pleasurable and satisfying yet lasting.
Leandro Erlich’s idea is to have an installation – a psychoanalyst couch made out of chocolate cake. The huge cake is mixed with real furniture. The idea will be to have the guests eating the furniture having in mind the soul’s content exposed in treatment.

Rob Wynne’s cake has the title CAKE CAKE and consists of biomorphic letters in his signature silver mirrors spelling out Cake. Rob Wynne’s CAKECAKE will be served by TABBOO! And eaten by The Delusional Downtown Divas.

Mickalene Thomas’ cake is called OH MICKEY! and is based on the aesthetics of her video and painting installation Oh Mickey! (2008). Thomas puts together a performance by ten naked women wearing white sports knee socks and shiny red high heels while serving cake. The only way to get the cake from them is to repeat the secret password “oh Mickey, you’re so fine you blow my mind OH Mickey – OH MICKEY!”
The Brooklyn artist’s dazzling representation of women evokes overdone 1970s aesthetics of blaxploitation films.

Marina Abramovic’s cake is entitled ABRAMOVIC EXPERIMENT. The artist is interested in ritualizing the act of eating the cake. Visitors at the first demonstration of this experiment will have to put a golden leaf on their mouth and sport a white lab coat in order to have the opportunity to eat the cake. The accompanying essay is written by Jovana Stokic.

The event will feature a video work by Ghada Amer and Reza Farkhondeh entitled an Indigestible Dessert. Indigestible Dessert features life sized cakes of George Bush and Tony Blair from last installment of KREEMART.
The second video titled Tartas is made by Gilles Stassart, the chef of famed Nomiya on the roof of the Palais de Tokyo, and Hans Gissinger. Tartas features an exploding cake made by Spanish pastry chef Christian Escriba for the occasion of the 100th birthday of Escriba’s bakery.

The Event:
Guests are invited to attend the event – after dinner – between 9:30 an 11:30 PM when there will be a coordinated series of cake unveilings and two live performances throughout this two hour time period. We anticipate between 200 and 400 people over the time frame at Haunch of Venison Gallery.

Kreemart: an organization that believes in art as nourishment.
Kreemart project started from the question – Is it possible to turn the dessert course into an art happening? From this premise it steered artist’s visions in regard to ephemeral pleasure of cake eating.

Kreemart was launched in 2008 by art advisor and Tate supporter Raphaël Castoriano. The first Kreemart was held at a dinner for Tate patrons in 2006. The event featured art cake creations by prominent artists Ghada Amer, Vik Muniz and Teresita Fernandez. Sant Ambroeus sponsored the dinner.

Kreemart is planning events in the next year in Paris, London and Berlin.
