South Street Seaport

Our annual tree lighting event features a countdown to the illumination of thousands of twinkling white lights affixed to the 50-plus-foot Chorus Tree, caroling by The Big Apple Chorus and a small-town parade by the Soul Tigers heralding the arrival of New York City’s most acclaimed Santa Claus.

The day begins around 3 ...p.m. with holiday chorus performances on the Pier 17 stage, roaming entertainment by the Neptune High School marching band, Big Apple Circus, and other fun holiday characters. There will be puppet shows, train rides for kids, an appearance by Sesame Street's Gordon and more all leading up to Santa's arrival and the tree lighting at 6 p.m.

An opening reception will be held for Naima Rauam's "Remembering Fulton Fish Market" art exhibition.

The spirit of fishmongers past returns to South Street Seaport, as resident artist cum ex officio Seaport historian, Naima Rauam mounts her 4th Annual Remembering Fulton Fish Market Art Exhibit in the downtown/performan...ce arts space @Seaport (210 Front Street at Beekman).

Although the Fulton Fish Market departed lower Manhattan for the Bronx in November 2005, its gravitational force continues to influence Rauam's artistic endeavors. The exhibit features new work from her Fulton Fish Market sketchbooks amassed over the years. Rauam spent countless nights recording the intimate details of market scenes few New Yorkers ever witnessed. The sketches continue to serve as the basis for her current drawings and paintings, which are presented in the annual remembrance of the Market.

The exhibition is on view November 1st - 22nd, from noon - 7 p.m. daily.
