This course provi...des an in-depth review of a model of the integration of acupuncture into a multidisciplinary practice, i.e. the Continuum Center of Health and Healing/Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City, where the instructor maintains a faculty practice. The instructor will incorporate a discussion of her experience practicing acupuncture in a medical setting in close collaboration with other health care professionals.

Kiiko Matsumoto Style Acupuncture (KM) utilizes a systematic, easy to learn, palpatory method, which is designed to provide instant feedbac...k. When using this system, the practitioner follows a palpation sequence in which specific active reflexes suggest the diagnosis, and the treatment’s efficacy is established by changes in these same reflexes.

TKM addresses a patient's health issues from several levels. By looking more deeply into the structural and/or constitutional imbalances, which often underlie a patient's symptomatic complaints, the practitioner is able to assist in a more complete and lasting healing. The eclectic nature of the Kiiko Matsumoto style of acupuncture gives the practitioner a wide number of viable options from which to choose in creating an effective treatment plan that addresses the individual needs of each patient. This style of acupuncture is well suited to the diverse needs of today's modern patient population.

Kiiko Matsumoto, L.Ac.
Matsumoto is internationally known for her scholarly work on acupuncture and the interpretation of Chinese classic texts. She has published four fundamental texts in English and many articles, as well as video productions in Japanese. Matsumoto is known for her ability to integrate the work of important Japanese Masters such as Master Nagano, Master Kawai, and Dr. Manaka, with her knowledge from the classic Chinese texts and her own clinical findings, creating a coherent, clinically effective style.

Matsumoto received her honorary Master of Pedagogy degree from Tri-State College of Acupuncture, and is the co-director of the Clinical Acupuncture Course for physicians at Harvard Medical School, Department of Continuing Education and Beth Israel Hospital. She holds two very busy practices in Newton and Natick, Massachusetts, and has taught extensively both in the US and abroad.
